Purpose Statement

This study aims to examine how cyberbullying affects teenage mental health and to find any potential protective variables that might help lessen these impacts (Giumetti & Kowalski, 2022). The study will focus on how cyberbullying affects mental health aspects, such as self-esteem, depression, and anxiety (Méndez et al., 2020). To create interventions that can aid in its prevention and mitigation, it seeks to provide insights into the causes of cyberbullying and how it impacts young people.

Statement of the Problem and Research Question(s)

Teenagers are increasingly using social networking sites and other online forums, making cyberbullying a severe problem. (Rao et al., 2018). Because it has the potential to seriously and permanently harm young people’s mental health, the issue is particularly alarming (Patchin & Hinduja, 2022). Cyberbullying may happen anytime, anywhere, making it challenging for victims to avoid its effects, which only intensifies the issue.

Research Questions:

How common is cyberbullying among teenagers, and what types are most prevalent?

How does cyberbullying impact teenagers’ mental health, such as anxiety, depression, and sense of self-worth?

What safeguards, such as resilience, social support, and coping techniques, can lessen the negative impacts of cyberbullying on teenage mental health?

Significance of the Study

The proposed study is important in several ways. First, it will help us better understand the frequency and types of cyberbullying among teenagers (Sprugnoli et al., 2018). Second, it will add to the body of evidence on how cyberbullying affects mental health by emphasizing the significance of actions that can lessen these impacts (Zhou, 2021). Thirdly, the research will pinpoint protective variables that can lessen the damaging effects of cyberbullying on teenage mental health or prevent them altogether, which can guide the design of future therapies (Kwan et al., 2020). Overall, the study has the potential to aid in creating more efficient methods for combating cyberbullying and enhancing young people’s mental health results.
