The triple aim initiative is a three-pronged approach to improving community health in the U.S. These are improving the healthcare experience, improving population health, and lowering the per capita cost of healthcare. In the pursuit of better community and optimum care provision, the Druid City Hospital (DCH) in Tuscaloosa, where I work, is moving to implement a hospital-wide electronic health records system to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare operationalization within the facility. This is per the resolve to improve the healthcare experience and lower the per capita cost of healthcare envisioned by the triple aim initiative. Per this initiative, healthcare systems across the U.S. should strive to initiate measures that enhance patient experiences and reduce the average cost of care provision.

Implementing EHR in DCH will enhance the efficiency of care provided in the hospital eliminating time wastages accustomed to inefficiencies. This will help reduce the per capita cost of care as envisioned by the triple aim. Additionally, EHR enhances the ability to diagnose disease and minimize medical errors resulting in better patient outcomes. Schopf et al. (2019) report that EHR is a valuable health information technology that automates hospital tasks and helps clinicians in clinical decision-making. The overall effect of this is enhanced patient experiences.

For the successful implementation of EHR in DCH, organizational change is required. Integral to change management is the ability to communicate the change process to members and create excitement for the change process. A change management philosophy can be helpful in this stage. In this regard, a major role of the organizational leaders is to explain to the members the importance of the change process to the organization and its alignment with the vision and mission of the organization. Subsequently, this will improve the adoption of the change provisions within the organization.

Modernization of healthcare has presented several innovations targeted at improving the overall quality of care provision. The healthcare industry has recently seen the introduction of technologies such as healthcare digital assistants. With the implementation of EHR at DCH, such technologies will be incorporated into the system to improve its overall efficiency. A review by Tsai et al. (2020) on EHR and other incorporated software detailed its benefits in enhancing care efficiency, reducing medical errors, and improving clinical outcomes. This further reinforced the need to implement hospital-wide HER within the hospital.

Notably, this course provided the basis for discussing the triple aim initiative. The course provided me with insight into nationwide and global initiatives to improve the quality of care in healthcare facilities and community health. The recommendations embodied in the triple aim initiative, such as reducing the per capita cost of healthcare and improving community health, are a reflection of contemporary issues within the U.S. healthcare landscape. The cost of healthcare is skyrocketing and emerging healthcare issues are continuing to undermine efforts to preserve the lives of Americans.

Specific assignments that were considerable are those on the triple aim, its impact on community health, and change implementation. Findings from these assignments enhanced my understanding of the organizational dynamics that influence change processes and how healthcare facilities play a role in effecting useful changes in their framework of operationalizations. Additionally, these assignments allowed me to scrutinize the healthcare landscape in which I operate to improve its operationalization. The course covered most aspects of the organizational change process centered on the triple aim. To better my learning experiences, clinical aspects should be added to enable the learners to have a wider perspective of change processes within the healthcare landscape in the U.S.
