The Implications of Globalization

According to Papastephanou (2005), globalization has political and cultural implications. The political implications include influencing world order, a country’s sovereignty, government practices, and policies. The cultural implications include intervening in reshaping and shaping self-conventions and identities, the frame of diverse creativities, sensitivities, and responses to aesthetic experience, the exchange of world interpretations, and the premise of human encounter. Globalization also widens the gap between poor and rich countries, the rise of less liberal and more rigid identity models as a self-justifying response to the disruptions caused by globalization, and the development of a mobile elite and a highly confined mass (Arditi, 2004). Therefore, it is important to constantly monitor how societies embrace and respond to globalization.

Ethical Issues That Go Along With the Lack of Education

One of the ethical issues that go along with the lack of education is the violation of justice and fairness. According to Ahmad (2013), one of the ethical principles created from Sharia laws indicates that practicing equity or justice, balance in life, beauty, and moderation is important. Lack of education denies some people the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that they can use to improve their lives leading to inequality and lack of fairness. The second ethical issue is limiting the promotion of life. One of the global ethical principles derived from Sharia laws suggests that individuals should receive respect, promotion of life, and protection (Ahmad, 2013). Lack of education limits a person’s ability to promote their life because they cannot access many income-generating opportunities. Bhargava (2006) argues that formal education imparts people with the knowledge and skills considered important for them to function in society as informed citizens and productive workers. Therefore, individuals who are not educated may feel excluded from functioning in society because they are not informed citizens and do not have the knowledge and skills required to participate in the labor force.

How Globalization Contributes To or Affects These Ethical Dilemmas

Globalization contributes to violating justice and fairness by creating inequality in access to opportunities. For example, globalization has increased minority groups in developed countries, forcing the government to redistribute resources in favor of a country’s citizens hence the inequality between the minority and majority in access to education, housing, and healthcare. Globalization also contributes to limiting the promotion of life by increasing competition for resources due to the rapid increase in the population in developed countries as immigrants move to the countries to access better opportunities.

Solutions to These Ethical Dilemmas

The most financially, socially, and culturally feasible solution for the ethical dilemmas linked to lack of education is investing more resources to fund public schools that enroll minority and low-income students to ensure that there are enough equipped schools for them. The second solution is collaborating with the community to identify students of school-going age who may be at home because of a lack of school fees and sponsoring them to get access to education in local schools.
