Challenging the Misconception That Missing University Equals Failure

I am concerned about your reaction the last time we were together. I agree that you were saddened by failing to secure a place at your favorite university. I also hear that you currently feel like you lost one of the most important things in life, thus believing that you have a low chance of making it in life. You have now resolved to some antisocial behavior, such as drinking and using some other drugs as a way of feeling better and somehow forgetting about your life’s disappointments. First, it is a big fallacy that one must possess a university or college degree for them to succeed in life. From my point of view, I feel like this is a notion derived to make students have some set goals and, therefore, work hard in their studies to pass exams and join a university. As such, this was used to motivate the students, but in a real sense, university studies do not determine whether one will be successful in life or not. Honestly, it is not everyone who has succeeded in life who went to university. There are so many opportunities that life offers, so believing in education only is just limiting yourself. I would urge you to look around and look at life from a broader perspective and you will certainly realize that there is so much you can do.

Second, I believe that one achieves success by finding their purpose in life and not by just getting a university degree. There are so many people who have left outstanding legacies by just pursuing their purpose in life. I know that our parents and society, in general, have attached too much respect to education, particularly having a university degree, and have made nearly everyone believe that it takes a degree to succeed in life. However, I strongly feel like a university degree or rather higher education studies limits one by making them believe they must be employed and thus hinders one from finding their purpose in life. I also believe that the reason you want to join the university is to get an education so that you can compete with your fellow graduates in the job market. If you are lucky enough to be selected among the thousand others, you would be guaranteed a few hundred dollars as your monthly salary, but this is about whether you pursued your purpose and emerged a person with unique skills. This would not only earn you more income but also enable you to create employment and play a significant role in changing society so that it becomes a better place.

I am certain that I have more life experience than you do since I have traveled widely and interacted with many people who have made it in life. From what I saw, I can assure you that you don’t need a university degree to make it in life. In fact, most university graduates do not see the essence of that degree and have ventured into completely different things in life that can make their lives better. This reveals to you that there are so many things you can do I live and also you can pursue that degree and end up not using it. Some of the things you can think of outside education include affiliate marketing, new inventions, hobbies, talents, and many other things that can make you stand out in a crowd. One critical way of succeeding in identifying a problem that has hindered some development and solving it will not only guarantee you success but you will also leave a legacy.

I equally agree that education plays a significant role in one’s life, but I disagree that it determines one’s success in life. You and I are aware of the rate of unemployment in the country currently and how technology has taken most of the jobs that used to be done manually. Today, there are many educated people, including immigrants, and technology is playing its part in displacing people from their former jobs. Consequently, workers’ payment has declined because cheap labor is available, and there are many people seeking employment. I have seen very many unsuccessful people who have graduated from universities. With this, I believe you will stop seeing yourself as a loser because you missed university admission, take life positively, and think of other things you can do or become. The only limitations that are there in life are the ones you set for yourself. Right now, you need to accept your fate and focus on something else or devise other ways of defining success and strategize on how to become successful.
