The Gift of the Magi by O Henry
It is vital to note that when adequately incorporating outside sources into a research project comes to mind, many students find it virtually onerous. In numerous cases, the most challenging aspect of writing this kind of paper lies in determining how to efficiently amalgamate these sources into this paper. From the comments of my peers and the professor, I realized that before discussing the best way to incorporate outside sources, it is crucial to comprehend the purpose of the research paper. In this case, according to Bosworth (2021), the students are often required to research a specific topic, get several sources that provide general information, or provide a postulation concerning the topic.
Besides, even though the outside source is being discussed in the research, the student’s voice has to be heard clearly throughout the essay. In the writing of the previous project, I realized that the voice of the student was stifled and needed to be projected more clearly because it is imperative for the readers of the research, as well as the instructor, to want to know what the student posits in the research that they have undertaken, and not just what other persons have said concerning the topic. It suffices to say that outside sources must be used to bolster students’ ideas regarding the topic and not just replace them.
Crucially, given that the essence of the sources relates to the presentation of facts and statistics, acting as evidence to bolster an argument and providing authority to a concept or argument, among other reasons, I realized that when incorporating this source, I had to determine the essence of its source and how best to merge its use to the general purpose of the research project. In this case, therefore, my intention of incorporating this source is to use it as evidence to bolster the argument of the two characters in O’Henry’s The Gift of the Magi who are in love.
Crucially, by using this source to bolster the contention of the relationship between the characters depicted in O’Henry’s The Gift of the Magi and his personal story, it is then possible for the readers to establish a more intimate relationship with the story and be in a position to relate with them. For example, in this source, the author posits, “… O’Henry has put some autobiographical elements in this story, as he had love marriage and he firstly earned much by his own from various jobs. After his embezzlement in bank, he was driven out from bank. Then as a writer, his salary was only $25 per month. He himself faced financial crisis. He wrote about Jim that his ancestor’s income was $30 per week, but his was $20 only” (Laljibhai, 2014).
From the feedback I received on my rough draft from the instructor and peers, I realized that my essay lacked some elements vital in ensuring that my essay’s effectiveness was crucial in relaying information to the readers. Therefore, my work needed a total overhaul in adequately selecting the title and making it as accurate as possible to ensure that the audience for this research is satisfied with its postulations. The title needed to provide a general overview of what the paper is concerned about, precisely without too much technical jargon that is essentially unique to this field.
The same goes for the thesis because it was weak and not entirely objective. The initial thesis was abstract and not quite riveting. From the comments, I realized that in formulating a potent thesis, an introduction that is regarded as successful sets the arena for my argument and keeps the audience engaged all through, which makes them more intrigued by the project. As such, there is a need to make the thesis statement more interesting by making it argumentative and thus spellbound the readers of the research project.

Consider how you want to incorporate the ideas and arguments from the outside source you located for your Week 5 scholarly article discussion. Include at least one quotation from the source in your final draft. Be sure to use APA style to cite it appropriately in the essay’s body and the references section.
Consider feedback on your rough draft from your instructor, peers, and Smarthinking (if submitted for review), and determine what changes you want to make. Do you need a more engaging opener or a more substantial thesis? Do you need to reinforce your arguments and add more supporting evidence? Do you have areas to develop or clarify? Are you satisfied with your conclusion?
Once you have revised the essay, review it for editing issues. Run the spell and grammar checker in Word, then proofread, looking for typos the checkers might have missed. Read it out loud to listen for awkward places and fine-tune the flow.
