Functional fitness training is intended to prepare the human muscles to handle routine activities. The benefits of functional training in enhancing routine bodily functions underpin its significance. A functional fitness program provides a framework to which functional training can be conducted and its benefits realized. A functional fitness program is individualized, though group training has also produced remarkable benefits. An effective functional training program has multiple steps that are tailored to the individual. The first step is to establish specific goals for the program. These goals vary across individuals. Whereas some people do functional training to enhance physical fitness, others engage in these exercises to build muscles. In all cases, the goals set should be specific and realistic.
Upon establishing specific goals, a specific method to be utilized in the exercise should then be defined. Here, an individual has to decide whether they will be doing the exercises in gym facilities and with supervision or not. This will be followed by a gradual rollout of various exercises. It is important to start each new exercise at a beginner’s pace and then gradually ease into the exercise. When switching to a new exercise, one should seek advice from a professional fitness consultant. The role of these consultants is to ensure that individuals stick to their goals and also advise on areas that may require improvements. Additionally, advice from medical consultants should be sought during training to ascertain the suitability of individuals to carry out some exercise.
Congenital disabilities refer to all forms of disabilities that are present at birth. Acquired disabilities, on the other hand, are all forms of visible or invisible disabilities that develop during a person’s lifetime. Congenital disabilities differ from acquired disabilities in that acquired disabilities are likely to be perceived as disabilities attributable to controllable behaviors, while congenital disabilities are likely to be perceived as disabilities resulting from uncontrollable behaviors (Roth). The sociological issues surrounding these disabilities are also different. Individuals with any form of congenital disability have been perceived as having a morally inferior status by society members. These individuals have always been perceived as weak and have been discredited in societal decision-making processes. Society has, on the other hand, given a gentler approach to individuals with acquired disabilities (Bogart et al.). Their disabilities have always been perceived as accidental happening. In most cases, these individuals maintain their social status and are not subjected to significant stigma.
Post rehabilitation processes are intended towards ensuring full recovery by individuals recovering from any form of physical injury. Post rehabilitative process has been used mainly by individuals who experienced long-term debilitation from a form of physical injury. A comprehensive non-medical post rehabilitative program is a four-staged process that starts with rest and injury protection. In this stage, an individual will be advised to have adequate rest while protecting the injured part of the body.
This is then followed by motion recovery, where the individual will be subjected to motion trials on the affected part. The motion recovery process is a gradual process that should be conducted in the presence of a specialist. Strength recovery then follows, where the individual subjects the injured part to strain to enable the body part to regain sufficient strength. The duration for strength recovery is dependent on the affected area. Weight-bearing joints are often delicate and tend to take longer for adequate strength to be regained. The last step is the recovery of function. The individual in this stage will revert to their normal lives and mobility functions. This is often achieved upon regaining adequate strength in the injured body part.
Therapeutic exercise programs have several sociological, psychological, and social benefits. The sociological benefits of a therapeutic exercise program include increased confidence, enhanced leadership skills, and peer acceptance, among others. Psychological benefits of a therapeutic exercise program include reduced symptoms of clinical depression, reduced symptoms of anxiety, reduced risk of clinical depression, and enhanced quality of life. Physical benefits of exercise include improved muscular strength, improved range of motion, especially in chronic inflammatory joint disorders such as osteoarthritis, and improved balance and reduction in pain in these chronic disorders (Ruby et al.). Therapeutic exercises have also been used clinically to avoid surgery in individuals with joint disorders to whom surgery is applicable. Physical therapy also forms part of the post-traumatic rehabilitative process and in the recovery process for disorders such as stroke.
The learning style that best describes my learning approach is the visual learning style. Visual learning style enables better retention of information. Retention of information upon visual presentation is even better when this information is presented in simplified graphical presentations such as charts. In exercise training, a visual learning style has been employed to pass various exercise interventions from the exercise instructor to an individual. In this case, the instructor demonstrates these interventions while the trainee observes.
