Reflecting on Your Decision-Making Style
The Context and the Decision I Made
When my daughter was diagnosed with stage one kidney disease, I felt that it was important to be around her so that I could take care of her and give her the emotional support she needed. Therefore, I decided to let her and her fiancé move to my house. They could not leave their three dogs behind, so I allowed them to move in with the dogs because there was enough room to host the dogs.
The Decision-Making Style
I used the behavioral decision-making style to decide the most appropriate course of action to take after my daughter’s medical results were released. According to Galanti (2021), the behavioral decision-making style focuses on relationships and evaluates other people’s feelings as part of the decision-making process. In my case, I empathized with my daughter and felt that she would have a hard time taking care of her fiancé and their three dogs while managing her health. I also felt that she would face some emotional and psychological issues before accepting her condition and not giving up even when the medical procedures drain her physical energy.

What Went Wrong
The first two weeks were okay, but then things started falling apart to the extent of making me consider changing my decision. The yard was full of dog poop, and dog hair was all over the place. The dog hair made me develop serious allergies that were always acting up. The situation was hard for me because I knew that my options would negatively affect my daughter. If I requested her to move the dogs to a dog shelter or a friend’s house, she would ask me to let her move back to her place so that she could live with the dogs. I was not willing to let her live in her house because I would not be able to monitor her health closely, thus making me opt to tolerate the mess caused by the dogs and look for alternative shelter for them within our compound.
