Reflecting on Peer Review- Strengthening Work through Feedback
John,
Great work with your post! You have really expounded on how mortgage salespersons are able to come in at the right time, and it’s all about data generation. I can only imagine the amount of time it saves you and the company from following empty leads and maximizing the viable leads. I also noticed that you mentioned that data from former clients is used in making decisions with regard to the refinancing of loans among others. This is an important angle of big data that some companies tend to neglect. Most companies will often focus on current information they gather from their clients and not use previous data to analyze possible future trends (Loshin, 2013; Olhorst, 2012). For example, during economic downtimes, client data collected in the past and similar situations can help in predicting possible future impacts on the business.
You also requested that the class give you their opinion on people being salespersons and that it depends on the orientation of a person. All forms of work and most interactions are a form of sales (Pink, 2013). For example, when a person is asking for a raise from the boss or is pitching an idea to colleagues at work or to seniors in a meeting, these are all ways of selling. In a more social setting, when a parent tries to convince a child to eat a particular food in exchange for some favour, then that too is selling. So yes, we all are salespeople, whether we notice it or not.
