My Experience with Formal Research Methods and Analysis Projects
Hello everyone. My name is Augusta Sherrod. I am currently studying for a Bachelor of Science-Human Resource Management degree. I am excited about being a student in this course because it will help me acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies that I can use as a Human Resource Manager. For example, I can use the knowledge of various tools and platforms to understand and interpret data for decision-making in business to improve my decision-making process when hiring and firing employees. The course will also help me increase my expertise in formal research methods because I only have basic knowledge of how formal research should be conducted based on my experience performing analysis projects in my workplace. Gebert (2013) defines formal research as a process that includes conducting scientific investigations to get measurable results. The main formal research methods include observation, experiment, and survey (Lankoski & Bjork, 2015).
I am familiar with the survey method because, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I conducted a survey on employee burnout and presented a formal report to the company’s executives to help them decide how to increase employee productivity. I also performed an analysis project to determine the employee turnover rate in my workplace. Analysis projects aim to determine an existing problem and prepare to deal with it (Shaw, 2022). Therefore, I have an idea of data analytics and how to draw a connection between existing data, but I am not an expert, which is why I am taking this course to enhance my expertise. I hope to achieve the course learning outcomes and objectives and retain useful knowledge for future formal research and analysis in my workplace.
