Facility Visit- Goodison Park Stadium

Facility Visit- Goodison Park Stadium

Introduction

Goodison Park is the official home stadium of Everton Football Club. The stadium has a capacity of 39,572 people when all are seated. The ground officially opened in 1892 and has undergone multiple improvements, but currently, the ground looks tired when measured against modern standards (Football Ground Guide, n.d.). From the outside, the sight of the huge stands is a great reminder of the facility’s history as a phenomenal piece of work in England. There are two huge screens inside the stadium in opposite corners. To complete the elegance of the facility is the three-tier main stand, which gives a bit of a modern taste.

Everton’s Goodison Park is one of the earliest stadiums to be built in England. The former FA president officially opened the stadium in August 1892. It is worth noting that the stadium is located in a residential neighborhood. Besides, Anfield, another historical league stadium, is just a few minutes away from Goodison Park. A fan who stands on the top floor of the three-tier stand can see Anfield football stadium. Another notable unique location nearby is a local church called St. Luke’s.

Revenue Source

Goodison Park generates revenue from multiple activities. Some of the main revenue sources include ticket sales, parking fees, concession deals with banks, sponsorship arrangements, and advertisement revenue. The facility collects revenue on behalf of Everton Football Club during their official home matches (van Ours, 2021). Also, the facility rakes in significant revenue from guided tours by those who wish to visit the facility. Everton Club makes revenue from local organizations by marketing on its behalf. However, it is worth noting that the facility does not allow local institutions and entities to use the facility for sporting events. This decision is meant to protect the facility from further damage.

Facilities and Equipment

The facilities at Goodison Park are pretty basic, and this is quite telling that the stadium is aging. A majority of the sitting area is made up of wooden chairs. It is worth noting that Goodison Park is a high-level sports facility that is equipped with the necessary equipment and amenities to support all sporting activities (Football Ground Guide, n.d.). For instance, the sports base has diverse and specialized training equipment to cater to athletes of all skill levels. The sports base area also offers additional facilities such as parking, lockers, showers, and a lounge. The staff ensures that all facilities are maintained clean and the environment is always kept safe for everyone’s enjoyment. Other sports infrastructure includes the modern 100m × 68m football pitch made of natural grass and artificial fiber.

Other facilities to support players and spectators have also been included in the historic Goodison Park. These include medical equipment and the storage area to keep critical supplies, especially medicines that could potentially go bad. There are also restrooms and changing rooms that meet global standards. There is also an outdoor recreation area that is mostly accessed by visiting fans, but even home fans who attend the matches earlier can access the section.

Staffing

Everton Football Club’s stadium is staffed with experienced and specialized trainers, coaches, and instructors who guide individual players toward attaining their goals. These staff play a crucial role in the sports base, where they guide individual players to attain individual goals (Fried & Kastel, 2021). There is also a team of hospitality professionals whose primary goal is to ensure that visitors have a great visitation experience and enjoy their time in the facility. Members of staff can assist visitors through tours and respond to inquiries since only experts and those with long experience are absorbed in the facility.

Parking

Everton, just like any other league football club, expects a huge number of supporters to demand a parking area. Most facilities prefer to locate parking areas a little distance from the stadium to avoid congestion during match days. For those visiting Goodison Park stadium, there is a car park at Stanley Park, which costs £10 per day (Football Ground Guide, n.d.). The park’s entrance is from Priory Road. After parking at the furthest entry at Goodison Park, one will avoid the traffic jam that often characterizes any parking closer to the stadium. Alternatively, one may rent and park at a private driveway near Goodison Park.

Industry Standards

According to Fried and Kastel (2021), industry standards and best practices are used to ensure that a facility maximizes return on its investments. To keep up with industry standards, Goodison Park’s playing pitch is located within a 68m by 100m area. One of the standards in football is the separation between home team fans and opponents. Goodison Park has a 3000-capacity sitting area meant for away fans. When the club does not expect huge away fans attendance, they allocate a 1700 sitting area for visiting fans. Another notable industry standard incorporated in the stadium is the allocation of many exit points and partitioning of sitting areas. Space adjustments are meant to avoid stampedes that can be potentially witnessed when there is a high fan attendance.

Summary

Goodison Park is one of the oldest stadiums in England. Some of the facilities at the stadium, such as huge supporting pillars and wooden chairs, are outdated, but the facility is still worth a tour. Much of the work has been put into the three-tier stand, which has a magnificent finish. There are also modern improvements, such as the installation of an electronic scoreboard. The flooring is quickly wearing out, but it is understandable as the club will move to a new facility soon.
