Dissertation
Write approximately 100 words reflecting on the focus of the Phase and resources available to assist you in this Phase.
Phase 5 ensures the project meets the requirements of the University of Phoenix Institutional Review Board. I will create a checklist of the requirements that should be completed and use it to ensure that all of them are met. I will also use the CDS Dissertation Guide for Final Dissertation Edit and CDS Dissertation Guide for Chapters 4-5 to identify improvement areas and make necessary changes to improve my dissertation. I will also prepare for the oral presentation by creating a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the research findings from my research. I will use the oral defense rubric, the oral defense video sample, and the oral defense tutorial to prepare for the presentation by familiarizing myself with what to expect during the presentation and the presentation requirements set by the defense panel.

Write approximately 100 words reflecting on your weekly learning, including the data analysis section of Chapter 4.
Data analysis is essential in research because it focuses on answering the research questions based on the data collected through data collection instruments such as questionnaires, surveys, and interviews (Mihas, 2019). My weekly learning has been quite informative in conducting proper research. Chapter 4 of the dissertation improved my research skills because I had to focus on the most relevant findings in the data analysis to address the research topic and all research topics. As I was preparing for Chapter 4, I reviewed different data analysis strategies and their applicability in my research, thus enlightening me on how to align data analysis strategy with the research approach. Following the rubric provided by the institution for Chapter 4 enhanced my knowledge of what to include in the chapter and how to distribute content to ensure that all research questions are thoroughly answered evenly. I also learned to link research results with the hypothesis to avoid providing irrelevant information.
Write approximately 100 words reflecting on your weekly learning, including the development of results related to your study.
According to Lester & Lester (2014), the results section of a dissertation not only includes a review of the leading research findings but also establishes a connection between the findings and prior findings from other similar or related research. Developing the results was challenging because I collected a lot of information. My main challenge was distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant data. However, the dissertation rubric instructions enabled me to narrow down the results and interpret them in a way my research audience can understand. I also used the rubric as a guide for creating a proper flow of information throughout the results section because the results varied based on the research questions they were answering. I also learned how to develop themes from the research questions to narrow results into different categories for more accessible data analysis. I also learned how to create the results under a theme using a narrative and examples, including quotes from research participants. I also learned how to discuss the meaning of research based on the null hypotheses.
Write approximately 100 words reflecting on your weekly learning, including the Discussion of Findings section of Chapter 5.
Chapter 5 communicates the value of the research to future researchers, leaders, and practitioners (Amanfi, 2019). Therefore, it is essential to convince the research audience that it meets their knowledge acquisition interests. Developing Chapter 5 was interesting because I got a clear picture of my research’s contribution to current research on similar concepts based on the unique findings from my research. However, I had difficulty identifying contrasting data from past research to determine it with my findings. Therefore, I opted to identify similarities between my findings and those from past studies. I also learned the most appropriate limitations in a dissertation and the difference between those discussed in Chapter 1 and those discussed in Chapter 5. I also learned how to develop a theoretical model explaining recommendations for future research.

Question
Following the Dissertation Chair’s and URM’s approval of the proposal in Phase 4, Phase 5 begins with submitting the University of Phoenix Institutional Review Board’s (IRB) application. IRB maintains a Human Research Protection Program to protect the rights and welfare of those persons who volunteer to participate in the research activities of our faculty, students, and staff. While the definitive responsibility for the ethical treatment of all human participants rests with the individual researcher who has secured the privilege to research, the University of Phoenix IRB acts as a regulatory oversight group committed to promoting the ethical and responsible treatment of volunteer human participants in a study. The IRB performs honest reviews of research studies to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and all institutional policies and procedures and offers education and guidance related to human subject research for the University community. Chairs are listed as co-researchers/investigators on the IRB application.

Dissertation
The University of Phoenix IRB is guided by The Belmont Report and focuses on respect for persons, beneficence, and justice. The University holds a Federal Wide Assurance filed with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (FWA: 00004202). Students should register for the UOPX IRB at IRBNet.org and access the forms and templates within the IRBNet library.
Following IRB approval, doctoral candidates can begin data collection.
For more guidance on writing Chapters 4-5, please review the College of Doctoral Studies Dissertation Guide and Alignment Handbook. Doctoral candidates writing Chapters 4-5 should review all chapters for alignment.
In Phase 5, doctoral candidates should review the following:
- Current dissertations from UOPX and other institutions to understand the structure and analysis of Chapters 4-5
- CDS Dissertation Guide for Chapters 4-5
- CDS Dissertation Guide for Final Dissertation Edit (FDE)
- Oral Defense Rubric
- Oral Defense Tutorial
- Oral Defense Video Example
- Review all Dissertation Chapters for alignment.
DOC/742 is a writing-intensive class for students. The Dissertation Chair, URM, and PV provide guidance, review, and feedback on the proposal to support the student in building a quality, robust dissertation. Students who do not gain approval in DOC/742, DOC/742A, and DOC/742B are required iterations to continue work on the dissertation.
When the student is permitted to submit to Tk20 for QRF, the doctoral candidate should work with the committee to schedule the Oral Defense. Upon successful completion of the Oral Defense, the dissertation committee scores the Oral Defense within Tk20. The Final Dissertation Edit (FDE) is reviewed in Teams 365.
To ensure passage of this stage, the doctoral candidate should review the Dissertation Criteria Assessment (DCA) Final Dissertation Editing Checklist.
Upon approval of the oral defense and before FDE review, students may decide to use a copy editing service, which is at the student’s discretion and is not mandatory for completion. Costs associated with such service are the sole responsibility of the student.
Following completion and approval of the FDE Review in Teams 365, the student then emails the updated Final Dissertation Microsoft Word Document to [email protected] – for the routing of the e-signature page. The student should include the following in the email:
- Subject title: Final Dissertation Document for e-signature page
- Attachment: The final dissertation document in Microsoft Word® with all completed edits*
- Cc: The FULL committee on the email
Failure to provide all the required information may result in a delay in e-signature page routing.
*random dissertations undergo a College of Doctoral Studies – Dissertation Quality Assurance Review as a quality assurance measure.
