Discussion of Findings Section

Chapter 5 of the dissertation is important because it contains a detailed discussion of the research findings and demonstrates the connection between the findings with findings from past research studies exploring the same concept (Amanfi, 2019). Therefore, readers can get more information from the results of past research studies if they want to establish the validity of the research findings, thus increasing the usefulness and reliability of a study. I will focus on different sections to create a detailed Chapter 5 and ensure that my research findings are clear to all audiences. The main sections will include research questions and hypotheses, the discussion findings, limitations, recommendations for future research, recommendations to leaders and practitioners, and a chapter summary.

Research Questions/Hypotheses

The research question or hypothesis section will reiterate the research questions and any hypotheses tested in the research. This will prepare the research audience on what to expect in the discussion of findings by reestablishing the purpose of the study. Reiterating research questions in Chapter 5 also enables readers to reevaluate the relevance of the information in discussing results based on the information they may be looking for. The primary assumption is that some readers may not have the time to go through the entire research study, especially researchers looking for specific information, and may rely on Chapter 5 to access the concepts reviewed in the research results and literature review.

Discussion of Findings

The discussion of findings section will cover the most part in Chapter 5. It will include comparing and contrasting the study results with existing literature. The researcher will focus on published research articles on entrepreneurship preparedness during a crisis, the impact of COVID-19 on small businesses, and measures taken by businesses to deal with disruptions caused by a crisis. I will first list all the relevant sources that can be used to compare and contrast each of your findings. I will ensure that at least two sources provide information related to each research question. I will then review the reliability of the sources based on the authors’ background and how the authors justify their arguments and then eliminate any source that does not seem credible. The sources will also be eliminated based on the publication date because I intend to use the most current sources because they contain more relevant data. If my proposal for Chapter 2 does not include several relevant sources, I will find other sources and add them to the reference list, including proper in-text citations.

Limitations

The limitations section will discuss the unforeseen limitations that the researcher encountered while conducting the research. The researcher will also mention how the limitations were overcome to enhance the study’s success. According to Fisher & Buglear (2010), identifying and mentioning study limitations enables the researcher to determine what to suggest for future research based on the unanswered questions arising from limitations such as limited data availability. Acknowledging study limitations also allows the researcher to demonstrate to the research audience that the researcher thought critically about the research issue being explored, understood the relevant literature discussing concepts related to the problem, and accurately accessed the research methods selected for the research. Accordingly, I will use the fourfold approach recommended for structuring the study’s limitations.

The first step of the approach is to identify and describe the limitation by using professional language and relevant definitions. The description will be brief and clear to ensure that the research audience clearly understands the issue and can follow the researcher’s thought pattern. The second step is outlining the possible impact or influence of the limitation on the research. This step includes elements such as the possibility of occurrence, the level of impact, and the overall direction the limitation has steered the research findings toward. The third step will include discussing alternative approaches to the identified limitations of the research. This step will consider providing a justification supporting the specific methodology and approach used in the research and why it was the right approach within the identified limitations. The fourth step will include describing the measures taken to minimize any risks caused by the research limitations to assure the study audience that the limitations did not affect the quality of the research and the reliability of findings.

Recommendations to Leaders and Practitioners

According to Biggam (2015), research recommendations guide readers on the target of the research, hence helping them determine whether it is within their interests or not. The recommendations to leaders and practitioners section will demonstrate how leaders and practitioners may solve the problem identified in the research based on the research findings. The researcher will focus on the research questions when formulating the recommendations. The recommendations to leaders may differ from those made to practitioners because they are both affected by the research problem differently. For instance, business leaders may be affected by the difficulty in sustaining business operations during a crisis. Government leaders may be relying on the research findings on the research problem in creating policies that make it easier for business owners to sustain business operations durinog a crisis, and practitioners may focus on collaborating with business owners to educate them on the most favrable measures to take to maintain their businesses during a crisis.

Recommendations for Future Research

The recommendations for future research will focus on what can be done to enhance the current research findings. The researcher will focus on what other researchers can do differently, such as changing the research methodology, including a different research sample, and expanding the scope of the research. The recommendations will also focus on the information that may not have been uncovered in the research and what other researchers should do to uncover the information. The aim of this section will be to guide researchers who may research the same topic or similar concepts to improve their research and ensure that it contributes to existing research. The researcher will provide three main recommendations for further study, including recommended methodologies based on the current methodology’s limitations.

Chapter Summary

Chapter 5 will conclude with a research summary. The researcher will reiterate the study objectives and the research questions and provide a brief overview of the study findings related to those questions and objectives. The researcher will conclude the summary with a strong and compelling statement conveying the research’s contribution to the existing body of knowledge on the concept reviewed in the research topic. The researcher will also include a brief reflection section below the summary. The reflection will review the researcher’s experiences encountered when conducting the research, including challenges that may have made it challenging to complete the research within the required schedule. The aim of the reflection is to inform the research audience about the efforts taken by the researcher to gather all relevant data needed to address the research problem, thus connecting with the audience on a personal level.
