Cyber Bullying and Sexting
Cyberbullying poses a huge threat to the mental and physical well-being of learners. Cyberbullying involves the use of technology to instigate non-violent forms of bullying, such as name-calling (Siegle, 2010). On the other hand, sexting involves sending sexual messages, which amounts to sexual harassment. The information from this article will be instrumental in developing an effective teaching strategy for the responsible use of technology for my students in first grade. I will use the information to teach the students how cyberbullying and sexting can affect their lives. In a bid to enhance their understanding, I will develop examples of cyberbullying and how it may affect their lives.
Apart from creating examples to guide students, I will also research examples from the Internet to illustrate how cyberbullying and texting have affected other individuals and ensure they learn from real-life experiences. After using the examples, I will share tips on how to use the Internet responsibly. In this lesson, I will use visuals to illustrate the ideal sites for students and how to navigate them. The most important aspect of this lesson is to ensure learners do not become victims of cyberbullying and sexting while avoiding the ripple effects of disrupting the learning environment.
The next step in my strategy will be to discuss the acceptable policies from the school regarding the appropriate use of the Internet. After that, I will teach about the laws that govern internet use. I will teach about the acts under which they can be prosecuted. The essence of teaching them about these laws is to highlight the importance of responsible use of the Internet and deter the learners from inappropriate use of the Internet.
