These are the stages that match a child’s age to the expected development or growth. Toddlers achieve different milestones from infants and older children. I intend to speak to the family members at the beginning of the session. This interaction should inform me about each child’s development. There are social, physical, emotional, cognitive, and attention milestones. I can monitor the toddlers’ progress and note any delays that may require attention with this information. Monitoring the development progress is essential because it will help me promote activities that address each toddler’s needs.

Development

Children go through different stages of growth at varying ages. The process of development occurs emotionally, cognitively, physically, and socially. I intend to maintain a development journal for each child. This journal will be based on the information obtained from the parents. Tracking the children’s development will enable customization of the instruction process. Toddlers’ development varies, and different activities are suitable for enhancing progress. Cognitive

Cognitive development refers to a child’s ability to comprehend, think, communicate, understand, or create memories. Toddlers’ cognitive development is achieved through play and exploration. While playing, toddlers may choose toys that have the same color or shape. I intend to incorporate games such as puzzles, which develop the toddlers’ cognitive development. I will also read books to the learners and invite them to narrate what could happen next. My learners will also play in the open spaces for further development of the brain. Games that involve sorting and arranging will be part of the teaching plan.

Attention

Attention in toddlers goes through stages of development. Toddlers’ attention develops gradually. The attention of a toddler shift from one element to another. It is highly responsive to stimuli within a child’s environment. It is impossible for toddlers to completely shut out all stimuli within their environment. Their curiosity contributes to constant shifting. Thus, distraction occurs easily. I intend to help with the process of shutting out external stimuli while the children learn or take part in other activities. This will be achieved by ensuring the class environment is controlled.

Relationship

Toddlers, like other children, value relationships with their instructors and other adults. They look up to these individuals. Creating relationships with children evokes trust. They feel understood and safe. I intend to develop a personal relationship with all toddlers in my classroom. The formation of these relationships will start with the family. I need to interact with their family members to understand the toddlers. Understanding toddlers is important for learning. That way, I can choose the most appropriate instructional strategies that cater to the different needs.

Play

Play is an important medium for learning and exploitation. Play promotes development socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. For toddlers, learning and playing are similar if well executed. I intend to encourage play among the toddlers. When children play, they solve problems, think, develop memory, concentrate, and improve their communication skills. I plan to use play constructively in the process of instruction. Toddlers will engage in solitary, associative, parallel, and cooperative play. I will also engage in the play for leading and guidance.

Environment

The environment in an educational context is important for children of all ages. As an instructor, I intend to create a high-quality environment that factors in the toddlers’ interests. Such an environment would include a variety of toys and expansive space. Such an environment will be relevant for the toddlers’ exploration as they actively seek out information. The environment will also be safe to ensure that toddlers do not harm themselves. The space is critical for independent and group activities. Freedom is important for continuous learning.

Exploration

Toddlers are curious learners. They actively seek out information that facilitates their learning process. Their curiosity is also important for development. As a teacher, I plan to tap into their adventurous nature to make learning more enjoyable. This can be achieved by allowing the toddlers to lead activities such as play and other social undertakings. This approach should reveal their personalities and interests. I should understand the learners and gain new ways of engaging them in the process of learning.

Toys

During play or other activities, it is essential to allow the children to lead. This points the instructor to the children’s interests. Therefore, one gains further information about each child and constructs strategies for capturing their concentration. Their adventurous nature allows the toddlers to understand their environments and colleagues.
