Assessing Learning Clusters
Operation on New Science Assumptions
Working in learning clusters throughout this program has, in many ways, mimicked the setting of an organization. The members of each group have been forced to demonstrate their leadership skills in order to be successful in group projects. My learning cluster has been exemplary of the new science of leadership, as explained by Wheatley (2011). The New Science of Leadership posits that an organization is a setting that is an interconnection of different factors that influence the behaviours of its members. The world is made up of interconnected networks, and a small disturbance in these networks can have a significant impact on the whole system. In this highly sensitive world, a disturbance can cause chaos that causes everything to fall apart. Wheatley (2011) posits that leadership works in the same way. Leadership is a system of interconnected networks where one mistake can cause chaos and negatively influence the performance of a given group. Therefore, leaders have to form strong adaptive groups that are adaptable to change to avoid chaos.
My learning cluster has proven the assumptions of new science to be true in the sense that the success of the team was dependent on following the rules we set. The various principles we developed as a team were the interconnecting systems. In case a team member fails to follow the rules, it creates problems for the performance of the entire team. Through communication, we were able to make the group adaptable. If a member believes that they would not be able to follow the predetermined rules, they are required to communicate so that the rest of the team members can adapt to the new changes. Otherwise, there would be chaos with each member not understanding what is to be done.
Behaviours for a Successful Group project
There are some behaviours that would help to enhance the success of the group and prevent the chaos that would prevent the achievement of objectives. As a member of this learning cluster, one of the behaviours that I would like to acquire is good interpersonal skills. Interpersonal skills include the ability to interact with others, as well as communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills. I would like to develop these skills because they are essential in any team. When two or more people work together, they must share information consistently to keep each member engaged. This can only be facilitated by good interpersonal skills (Berry, 2011). I would also like to develop the behavior of trust. It is important that team members believe in the abilities of every contributor. I want to trust that my team members can contribute meaningful content that is essential for the success of the project. I would also like to develop respectful behavior. I strive to treat each team member as important to the success of the project. Respect enables one to understand that everyone has different opinions and ideas, which can be conflicting in a project (McCallin & BA, 2009). By developing respect, I can give each member a chance to be open and make their contributions without fear of negative criticism. Lastly, I would like to develop accountability. In a team, each member should be responsible for the contribution they make and be accountable for their actions. In my learning cluster, every member has their personal contributions that they have to bring forward and show accountability for whatever response they get from the team.

Question
Assessing Learning Clusters
Using what you have learned from all members of your learning cluster, synthesize some recommendations for leaders around these topics. This will provide a basis for your group project recommendations.
Discuss in what ways your learning cluster has operated on new science assumptions and comment on behaviours that you would like to acquire that will help you be successful in your group project. Post to the discussion area.
