Abraham Maslow’s management theory stresses meeting workers’ psychological and self-actualization needs to maximize performance. The fundamental physiological needs for higher-level self-fulfillment are central to his theory. He defines effective management as understanding and meeting these requirements in the workplace. Managers may maximize the potential of their staff by creating a supportive atmosphere that supports personal development, innovation, and autonomy. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs emphasizes the significance of all-around employee growth and engagement in attaining business success.
Maslow’s management philosophy, based on humanistic psychology, proposes a hierarchical framework for analyzing employee motivation. At its core is that people are motivated to meet fundamental physiological and safety requirements before proceeding to higher-level wants, like a sense of belonging, esteem, and self-realization (Shi & Lin, 2021). Maslow indicates that meeting these requirements leads to increased employee happiness and productivity. Managers play a critical role in developing cultures that support these demands by fostering personal development, recognition, and empowerment (Hayat Khan Tahir & M. Iraqi, 2018). Essentially, Maslow’s theory highlights the significance of recognizing and addressing individuals’ inner motivations to improve business performance and employees’ well-being.
Organizational managers apply Maslow’s theory across the organization. Managers understand that retaining the best talent in an organization requires fair compensation practices. As a result, they pay employees competitively to curb attrition and bolster happiness (Drakopoulos & Grimani, 2013). In the same breath, the theory implies that people are motivated by more than financial benefits. It is for this reason that managers listen to employees’ input and feedback before making crucial decisions.
In summary, Maslow’s theory of hierarchy is relevant in human resource management. Business managers are keen to retain the talents by compensating them fairly, listening to their input, and offering other intrinsic needs to keep them motivated. The theory requires managers to view employees as the most crucial organizational assets that play a central role in the pursuit of business goals.
