Recommendations
The article provided explains Regina’s struggles to incorporate a sustainability program into her start-up business. According to the information provided in the article, today, clients are becoming increasingly concerned about the level of greenhouse gases emitted into the environment that cause negative climatic impacts, such as global warming. Thus, many clients prefer to purchase products from organizations that embrace sustainability with the assurance that they are taking care of the environment.
For many businesses, making a profit is no longer a priority if this initiative does not include taking care of the environment and the people residing in these environments. Many organizations are identifying initiatives they can incorporate into their daily operations to protect the environment as they engage in activities that help them generate profits (FedEx, 2012). However, sustainability programs are expensive and have become a challenge for start-ups to plan and implement.
In the case study provided, Regina, the owner of a small-scale start-up, can integrate several of the initiatives identified in the exercise above to achieve sustainability in her organization. For instance, Regina could purchase energy-saving bulbs and then use them in her store as a way to participate in conserving the environment (Ark, 2014). Energy-saving bulbs’ purchase and installation is a cost-effective method of ensuring that the energy used in the organization’s premise protects the environment by not releasing greenhouse gases. Additionally, Regina could buy eco-friendly packages and then deliver products in them (FedEx, 2012). These packages would be highly bio-degradable as a way to ensure they do not destroy soil structure that is essential for the flourishing of flora and fauna in her clients’ environment.
Further, Regina could use vehicles that consume minimum fuel quantities to deliver ordered products. These vehicles are sustainable as they release negligible quantities of greenhouse gases into the environment, thereby protecting it. If Regina embraces this approach, she will achieve a sustainable business model. In the future, after Regina’s business is well-established, she can try to integrate other costly sustainability strategies, such as treating the waste her organization releases before dumping it in water bodies and causing the death of plant and animal life (MB Lifestyle, 2020). Further, Regina should purchase solar panels that she can use in her store roof as a source of renewable energy instead of using fuel to power her machinery at work.
Lastly, in the future, Regina should form partnerships with organizations, such as hydroelectric plants, to supply her with sustainable energy. Instead of purchasing fuel to power her machinery operations at work, Regina should use the supplied hydroelectric power that will minimize her release of greenhouse gases into the environment. If Regina adheres to these recommendations currently and in the future, she will enjoy a sustainable business model that will attract clients and investors and assure her of long-term organizational sustainability.

Solving a Business Problem
Overview
The assignment in this unit asks you to bridge the academic and business worlds: to take what you learned in the readings and your experience learning about opening a new business and propose a solution in business terms. Specifically, how can Regina’s newly opened business begin a corporate sustainability program?
Instructions
Review the following from this unit’s studies before continuing:
“Coca-Cola Shows The Way To Water Stewardship Even In Times Of Crisis.”
“Sustainability a Walmart Pillar.”
“Shipping FedEx Envelopes Is Now Carbon-Neutral.”
“Small, Local Businesses Jump on the Sustainability Bandwagon.”
The three organizations mentioned in these articles have discovered advantages to incorporating business practices with supporting the community in lasting endeavors that sustain a business for new generations. The articles present views on the value added when an organization invests in corporate sustainability. Environmental sustainability has only become a topic on the corporate agenda within the last two decades. Today, some consumers choose their providers based on a company’s carbon footprint.
For this assignment:
Create a heading for each of the first three companies (Coca-Cola, Walmart, and FedEx).
Review the articles and present short bulleted lists for each organization, outlining three initiatives in which each organization is involved.
Create a heading called Recommendations.
Based on the article “Small, Local Businesses Jump on the Sustainability Bandwagon” recommends two initiatives Regina might undertake to immediately begin building corporate sustainability in her new business. This part of your paper should be 5–8 paragraphs.
