Psychology-Making Contacts for the Future

Psychology-Making Contacts for the Future

Individuals’ career choices and pursuit is often informed by their passion for these career involvements as well as the anticipated societal value addition relatable to the specific career. External factors such as the individual environment also influence these choices greatly. The motivation towards these pursuits is often individualized and, in most cases, involves the addition of anticipated societal value. The realization of these dreams is, however, dependent on the environment of a person. This encompasses their social work and social cycles. Social and work cycles are important components of an individual’s existence. Their significance in ensuring individual well-being underpins their necessity. This paper seeks to discuss an individual’s career choice and the factors that informed the specific choice, as well as the effects of their social and work cycles on them.

The career choice selected is nursing. Nursing is aimed at offering healthcare to those who need it. The goal of the nursing profession is to ensure the attainment of optimal healthcare and the enhancement of quality of life. Nurse providers can either practice in all hospital settings, special clinics, or care homes, among others. The nursing profession is unique in its approach to care provision. With the main aim being to address the needs of the patients, nursing roles are tailored towards expressing compassion and meeting the care needs of the individual patient. To attain this, nurses work autonomously and collaboratively with other healthcare providers to design therapeutic approaches that yield optimal clinical outcomes for the patient. My goal in my nursing career is to attain a nursing speciality in oncology. Oncology nurses find utility in ambulatory care clinics, acute care clinics, and oncology clinics, among others (Tariman et al., 2016). Oncology nurses work with a multidisciplinary team that includes surgical oncologists, radiology oncologists, medical oncologists, and oncology pharmacists, among others. These disciplines work in concert to develop a patient management plan that enables the realization of optimal care.

My goal towards becoming an oncologist nurse specialist is informed by my passion for offering care and for improving the quality of life of cancer patients. Cancer has been implicated in increased morbidity and mortality across the globe. The incidence of cancer has seen an exponential rise in the recent past, with consequential suffering and loss of quality of life (Mattiuzzi & Lippi, 2019). Suffering attributable to cancer is due to pain, which is a symptom of most cancer, as well as other symptoms that accompany this condition.

Oncologist nurses have several responsibilities in the care provision process. These responsibilities include administering radiation and chemotherapy to patients as well as monitoring patients for their well-being and response to treatment. Their high contact time with the patient makes them considerably significant in picking complications attributable to the disease process or intervention approaches as well as the side effects attributable to the therapeutic intervention utilized on the patients. The desire to ensure patients’ well-being and alleviate their suffering formed the basis of my selection. Oncology nurse certification will equip me with the necessary skills and knowledge that will ensure excellence in my care provision processes.

With the rising cases of cancer, a gap exists in cancer management. This gap is due to the inadequacy of healthcare providers that can effectively offer care provision to cancer patients. Healthcare providers, specifically nurses, are therefore required to bridge this gap. Whereas basic nursing training equips trainees with the basic skills required in care provision processes, it does not impart specific skills utilizable in cancer care. Specialty disciplines such as oncology nurse certification are targeted towards the optimization of cancer management by providing the required set of skills that enhance the competitiveness of nurses in cancer management processes.

Additionally, cancer patients, especially those who are terminally ill and on palliative care, do require special handling. These patients should be handled in a respectful manner and in a manner that does not affect their mental well-being further. Cancer is also very vast in its presentation and development, with many cancers having been elucidated. Their management is also complex, often involving agents that are potentially carcinogenic and harmful to normal body cells. Special skills are therefore required to handle them. Pursuing a specialty course in oncology nursing will ensure that I obtain these special skills.

Cancer management draws the input of other disciplines. Effectiveness in the care processes is dependent on their collaboration. Various groups of people can be crucial in aiding my career and pursuit of becoming an oncologist nurse. These persons include medical oncologists, oncology pharmacists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, and other oncology nurses, among other groups. Their significance in this regard is attributable to their expertise in their various fields as well as the skills necessary in the general management and handling of cancer patients.

Goal-oriented approaches have been utilized in care provision processes in cancer care. Multidisciplinary teams have been utilized in designing these goal-oriented approaches. This collaboration brings the various disciplines together and taps their individual expertise and skills towards care provision. It also enables the passage of information from one individual to another. Having these individuals in my cycle will ensure that I adequately learn from them and that I obtain skills that may improve my care provision processes.

Various social platforms are utilizable in making personal contacts that may, in turn, further my pursuit of an oncology nursing career. Social media platforms such as WhatsApp and LinkedIn can be used in this regard.  WhatsApp, for instance, has group features that can draw all these disciplines to a common platform that will facilitate information flow. This platform will also facilitate my learning process by availing me of information that can improve my care provision processes. LinkedIn can also be used. It allows providers to post their expertise, skills, and knowledge on this platform, making them accessible to others. Facebook has also been used. Facebook also has group features that can bring together members of interdisciplinary teams. All these platforms consolidate important health information that can be utilized in cancer management.

Oncology nursing remains a special area of nursing practice. Oncology nursing is targeted at offering care to cancer patients. Care provision in oncology clinics draws multidisciplinary teams and tailors them towards care provision. These teams form a considerable source of knowledge, and including them in an individual cycle is necessary. Social media platforms can be utilized in bringing these groups together.

Regardless of the career you pursue or are currently pursuing, it is likely that securing the resource of friends and professional acquaintances will be as valuable as any other action you could take.

Psychology-Making Contacts for the Future

Psychology-Making Contacts for the Future

Part 1:

First, take some time to reflect on your career and/or future career. If this includes more than one career path, then focus on the one that you are most concerned with in the long term. This might include working in a specific field, starting a business, or any other pursuit you are currently working on or plan to work on in the future. The choice behind the pursuit you will focus on is a personal choice.

Write two pages on why this particular career and/or pursuit is your choice. Reflecting on the why behind your wish to achieve a goal will help to make it feel more tangible to you. This exercise of reflection should serve to remind you of your motivation and will be a good thing to refer back to if your motivation ever gets low. The “why” behind a pursuit is oftentimes more important than the “how” of a pursuit. If you have a strong enough “why,” you will find the “how.”

Part 2:

For the second part of this assignment, make a list of the types of people who could help you in your career and why those people would be good contacts to have. This list should be general in nature, meaning you should list professions or names of positions within companies rather than specific names.

You should list general fields or positions like accountants, attorneys, marketing managers, CEOs, etc., rather than any specific names. Be sure to list at least five professions or types of people.

Part 3:

Next, consider which social media platforms you could use to make personal contacts that could help you in your pursuit, along with why and how you could use each. Ensure that the platform and your use of it line up with the specifics behind your chosen future goal.

Describe at least three different platforms you could use, along with why you would use it, and how you would use it for each of the three.

Part 4:

Finally, put all of this together and take action. The next part of this assignment is where you can make a big difference in your grade and your real-life pursuit of a goal!

Reach out through the avenue of social media and make contact with three people that you do not currently know. Describe who you contacted and why (you do not need to give their specific name). Explain how you went about contacting them. Contacting someone who works in the same field as you or the same field you intend to work in should be relatively easy as long as you take a professional approach. Speculate on how this new contact might be helpful to you in the future. If you are not currently using social media, then find someone that you know who has used social media to make connections. Ask them to describe how social media has helped them to network and write about how social media has helped them to network and make connections. Use at least 2 credible sources.
