Is Harry Porter Evil
Parents have the responsibility of bringing children in the right manner. Also, at a young age, children are curious to try many things they feel are harmful to them in the future. The parents are responsible for ensuring that the children have only access to materials they feel would benefit them. This might range from the kind of movies they watch to the kind of books they read. For example, children can prevent their children from reading or accessing magazines and novels that promote pornography.
However, I don’t feel that the parents have the right to demand the school censor their children reading materials. I believe that school is the foundation of professionalism. Therefore, before any material has been accredited to be accessed by students or be present in the school library, they undergo a thorough assessment from the accredited board of education. The books available in many schools are those that teachers and education stakeholders believe are relevant to the students. Besides, the education body that decides on the reading materials available in the school are professionals who have a better understanding than parents. I don’t think there would be any person who, in their right senses, would recommend reading material that would harm the student emotionally or psychologically.
A school is a place where students are exposed to real-life and contemporary situations happening in the world. I believe that the teachers and librarians better understand the reading materials and can easily scrutinize harmful materials from their stores. Besides, the interpretation of concepts may vary between students and parents. For example, a parent can read a book and feel that they are promoting witchcraft while at the same time, a student or a child feels the reading has some sought of entertainment. Therefore, this interpretation level should not allow parents to force some reading materials to be removed from the system. However, when they feel confident that reading materials can cause harm to the students, they can do due respect by going to the teacher and addressing their issues. They will better understand what the reading material aims to teach the reader/ learner.

Choose one of these two prompts to respond to:
- Based on Blume’s essay — The issue is whether parents have the right to demand that schools censor their children’s reading materials. In your opinion, do they, and if so how should they exercise that right?
- Based on Kozol’s essay — Why would an illiterate society be more likely to become less democratic?
Your answer should consist of a well-developed paragraph, which means your first sentence should answer the question(s) (i.e., topic sentence), and the following sentences should support the topic sentence. The paragraph should be unified and coherent with specific supporting details or examples from the story. The sentences should be clear, concise, and arranged in a logical order. Transitions, pronouns, and repetition should be used to provide coherence. The paragraph should follow an argument format.
