Communication is vital in all aspects of people’s lives, be it formal or informal. Additionally, there are various ways of communicating, such as oral and written communication. Under various circumstances, individuals are required to use various forms of communication to converse. Moreover, communication is vital in everyday life; therefore, skills must be gathered to perfect all forms of communication. For written communication, grammatical errors are avoided when presenting a written form of communication perfectly. In businesses, written communication is vital in business documents and presentations, and consequently, business students should acquire written communication and editing skills to participate in an organization effectively. Therefore, different techniques are used to help students reduce their grammatical errors, such as written feedback. Thus,  research was conducted to test its effectiveness in the article “You Can Lead a Horse to Water, but You Can’t Make Him Edit: Varied Effects of Feedback on Grammar across Upper-Division Business Students.”

Following complaints about the lack of college business students’ written communication skills, research was conducted to test the effectiveness of using written feedback to reduce grammatical errors, thereby improving writing skills. Therefore, the question to be answered by the research was, “Can feedback about writing mechanics in this coursework effectively increase business students’ skill levels in grammar?” Subsequently, various methods were put in place for the study.

The methods include assigning two assignments to test before the treatment assessment of the student’s confidence, attitudes, behaviors, and experience in writing. These assessments depend on the hypothesis that these factors influence the efficiency of written feedback. The results indicated that grammatical errors reduced the more the students wrote and edited their drafts before submitting them. Accordingly, correlations were confirmed between the factors considered during the assessment and the ability to acquire and improve writing skills.

However, these results showed a discrepancy between the first and second assignments, with the second assignment having better results. Accordingly, despite their confidence and other attributes in correcting errors, the students’ correction of errors was insignificant. Illustrating that more student errors resulted in an inability to provide the necessary response; thus, errors weren’t corrected. Hence, the hypothesis of the study wasn’t supported.
