It is desirable to understand that this process is a transition from writing a regular course paper. Writing for publication requires a person to develop unique skills. Reflective skills enable a person to appreciate the importance of feedback from an initial draft (Nolan & Rocco, 2009). Embracing feedback enhances the quality of the paper. Furthermore, the writer should ensure that the work is logically correct and fulfills the intended objectives when writing and proofreading the draft. The focus should not be on grammar and spelling solely.

Some challenges can derail the publication process. Selecting the appropriate journal to submit work for publication can be a problem. Besides, the process is delayed by the need for peer reviews. Subsequently, two reviews are required before an article is published. It is reported that each review takes approximately four months (Al-Busaidi, 2018). The rejection of manuscripts compounds the shortcomings of a time-consuming process. Rejections prompt publishers to seek other journals and begin the entire review process. They can be minimized by embracing criticisms and formatting accordingly before submitting to other journals.

The publication process has various merits. It polishes a person’s writing and research skills. This can be attributed to the regular feedback and corrections made in the process. Secondly, publication creates a connection with peers, other researchers, and professors (Korstjens & Moser, 2018). This is key for professional growth, collaboration, and developing interpersonal skills. Further, the publication process can help to unmask future careers. A person can develop a keen interest in publishing after accomplishing their studies. This is advantageous to the person and the scholarly community.

The publication process is something that intrigues me. It makes a person develop critical reflective skills. The entire process of publication: creating a conceptual manuscript, literature review, and a conceptual paper provides a learning opportunity. Furthermore, I want to positively impact my field of study through regular publications.
