Women in Leadership

Women in Leadership

The storyline of Wife of Bath revolves around the theme of female dominance. In the Middle Ages, women depended on a man to meet their life needs. The women occupied a position of subordination to their men folk; however, with regard to domestic affairs, women had a level of control over men. As the knight in the story discovers, what women desire to have is sovereignty over their husbands. However, such control and sovereignty paradoxically occur in the social structure where women lack economic or political power. This essay will discuss the importance of supporting women in leadership and participation and give a brief snapshot of their participation and leadership across the globe in the 21st century. The last portion of the essay will look at the barriers to women’s participation and leadership and propose strategies to overcome these barriers.
