Wellness in the Elderly
To assist elderly persons and remain independent, healthcare providers focus on predicting and even minimizing, where possible, the progression of chronic disease and overall health decline. While several efforts have been developed, a holistic approach to assessing the health and well-being of older persons is necessary. As older people have complex and diverse needs, the emphasis should be on a holistic assessment that is also longitudinal for multiple parameters. Doing so will comprehensively examine a person’s well-being and identify potential wellness barriers. In the proposed wellness program, technological tools will be used as these have the potential to monitor multiple parameters in a non-obtrusive way and their progress over time. These tools will assess the parameters’ relationships and, concise, falsifying trends, patterns, and cases that need immediate intervention. Do you need any help for completing your assignment ? E-Health Tools for Health and Wellness
The wellness hardware/software platform will use three existing components: a telehealth kiosk, WebQ, and CogniFit. A telehealth kiosk is a community health kiosk used to assess the target populace’s physiological parameters. It will allow secure access by the users to an individual profile whi, which will capture vital signs data and store the same in a PHR. The kiosk is fitted with standard devices, including a heart rate and pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, glucometer, and a weighing scale. The stall operates over digital subscriber lines (DSL), regular phone lines, and broadband. Each registered user will be presented with a magnetic stripe card to swipe and access the session. Thus, multiple users can access the kiosk in one location, providing individual monitoring. WebQ is an interface allowing the NP to design surveys to assess the spiritual, social, and functional well-being of the elderly in Miami Gardens, FL. The surveys can be administered either confidentially or anonymously. The data from the survey will be collected, compiled, and can be downloaded in different formats. The CognifFit is a software that will be used to assess the participants’ cognitive parameters. This brain fitness system includes several steps that allow for the assessment and, with time, the improvement of several essential cognitive abilities. The system has been tested for its validity and reliability and is used in assessing patients with the elderly at risk of cognitive decline, persons with mobility deficits and insomnia (Haimov et al., 2008; Korczyn et al., 2008; Shatil et al., 2008; Verghese et al., 2010).
