Week 7 – Peer Responses
Peer Response 2
Hello Krizelle,
Thank you for your post. I agree with you. Both an abstract and a capstone poster are summaries of the purpose, design, results, and significance of a research project. Such a summarized presentation of the research project is what makes both so beneficial in the sharing of the research findings: Week 7 – Peer Responses.
Both abstracts and capstone posters are great for sharing research findings as they are concise and visually appealing. In a world where the level and duration of concentration on one subject or activity has much fallen, such conciseness and visual appeal are essential for keeping people more attracted to the information and further engaged with the information for longer. Recent opinions focused on the evolution of the scientific poster argue that it has gone from a once a eye-sore to a more appealing and eye-catching way to communicate with the use of captivating images, graphics, and charts (Rossi et al., 2020).
As you have argued, an abstract allows readers to access specific information pivotal to the research. This is quite important and time-saving especially when there are multiple research articles to review. It can help with fast screening of the articles especially when doing different types of literature reviews (Gates et al., 2020), which as you have noted, helps the reader or reviewer determine whether the research is relevant to the interests of their current review project.
At the same time, abstracts and posters may improve the clarity and effectiveness of the communicated information to both the professional and general public by efficiently presenting such information. In their presentation, especially for capstone posters, the general public can understand by using visually appealing and self-explanatory images, graphics, and charts.

An abstract and a capstone poster both summarize the purpose, design, results, and significance of research. Both an abstract and a capstone poster are beneficial in that they are effective means of sharing information into a condensed format. The difference between the two is that an abstract summarizes the elements of the research into a condensed section of writing, while a capstone poster visualizes all the elements and allows the research to be displayed for discussion or for educational purposes.
An abstract allows the reader to specificize the pivotal information relating to the research and helps determine whether the research is relevant to the interests of the reader. There are various forms of abstracts such as the critical abstract, descriptive abstract, informative abstract, and highlight abstract (University of Southern California, 2024). The most commonly used abstracts are informative abstracts which present the purpose, methods, results, and conclusions of a study (University of Southern California, 2024). An abstract is beneficial as it allows readers and other researchers to engage with, ask further questions, or provide feedback on the research.

Week 7 – Peer Responses
A capstone poster can outline the results and significance of findings in a visually appealing way for learners (Spicer et al., 2022). A capstone poster can encompass a wide range of infographics such as graphs, charts, illustrations, and diagrams with text that all allow for an engaging visual representation of the research information (Spicer et al., 2022). A capstone poster is beneficial in that it can be a supplement to a research presentation and can help foster discussion and feedback with peers about the research.
