Week 7 Clinical Skill EKG or XRAY

Week 7 Clinical Skill EKG or XRAY

The course resources recommended for this week were essential in understanding various concepts relating to the interpretation of test results. For instance, learned the basic Chest X-ray approach and things that should not be missed when interpreting a Chest X-ray. Understanding the interpretation of X-rays is important for nurse practitioners because according to Kearns et al.(2023), nurse practitioners use diagnostic imaging to inform future research and practice. According to Navigation Radiology (2020), Chest X-rays the most important technical things that should be considered when interpreting an X-ray include determining whether a patient is rotated, the amount of radiation used in the X-ray and how to explain the radiation dose to patients because different types of medical X-rays have different radiation dosages. As a nurse practitioner, this information is important in promoting patient safety because the wrong amount of radiation can compromise patient safety. Therefore, the video on Chest X-ray approach is a vital resource for nurse practitioners who may be tasked with the role of taking care of patients who require Chest X-rays.

The second thing that I learned from the Chest X-ray video is that areas that do not attenuate the X-ray as much on the x-ray such as the X-rays that make it through easily appear darker which means that less dense body organs such as the lungs appear darker on the x-rays and more dense body organs appear lighter. This information is vital because it can be applied to accurately interpret X-rays. According to Alherz et al.(2023), Chest X-rays play a vital role in monitoring and diagnosing various diseases in the pediatric field and the decisions based on the X-rays can have a serious impact on the patient. Therefore,it is important for healthcare providers to accurately interpret the results of an X-ray and justify their interpretation to patients and other healthcare providers involved in the patient’s treatment such as doctors.
