Volunteer Experience Duties
This week at my volunteer site, I had the chance to take on a variety of tasks involving the maintenance and organization of student records and reports, all the while keeping a sharp focus on preserving the privacy of children and their families. We carefully toiled as a cohesive team to guarantee that the student data was precisely recorded and safely stored. Updating and maintaining student records in the database was one of my main duties. I closely collaborated with my team to enter new student information, update current records, and ensure that all data was recorded accurately and promptly. Additionally, I was allowed to produce and deliver various reports, including reports on attendance and academic advancement, to important company members. Careful attention to detail and excellent teamwork were required in order to meet the set deadlines.
I discovered a clear connection between my volunteer work and my academic training in behavioral health, which strongly emphasized family relations. The significance of anonymity and privacy in mental health was one factor that caught my attention. Anonymity and privacy assure individuals that their personal information and experiences will be kept confidential (Kamanzi & Romania, 2019). I learned about the ethical issues surrounding private information management throughout my curriculum, especially while working with families. This knowledge was useful when volunteering because I got to work with private student information and reports. This knowledge’s practical application became clear to me when I came into a circumstance in which a student’s family asked for a report on their child’s academic development. To preserve people’s privacy, I ensured that the right consent forms were obtained and the required procedures were followed while releasing the report. This particular incident highlighted the significance of maintaining confidentiality while evaluating the needs and rights of the families we support.
