Universal Prekindergarten

Universal Prekindergarten

Advantages and Disadvantages of Implementing Universal Prekindergarten

Advantages Disadvantages
  • Prekindergarten students have a greater vocabulary.
  • Children have better-regulated socio-emotional skills, which motivates them to continue learning.
  • Prekindergarten children are less likely to engage in dangerous activities later in life.
  • Lower-income families can enroll their children in early childhood education programs.
  • School readiness can be achieved by focusing on the child’s development in language and literacy, early numeracy, social skills, self-help, nature, and science.
  • Some won’t experience the same benefits if the prekindergarten classes aren’t of excellent quality.
  • There is less emphasis on early learning and academics than there is in preschool (usually).
  • It is possible to learn too much too soon. This may cause frustration and interfere with a desire to study.
  • Many young children have a hard time separating themselves from their parents.
  • Critics of preschool claim that exposing children to the concept of a teacher as the main source of information limits their learning opportunities and capacity to think creatively.

Are you in favor or against the implementation of Universal prekindergarten? Why or why not?

Yes, I support the creation of universal prekindergarten, as many children who are too young to attend kindergarten stay home and play video games. That is why I am in favor of it. It can boost early literacy skills such as reading, writing, number recognition, and even counting, as evidenced by some of the benefits listed above. In most prekindergartens, an organized learning day with a wide range of activities is included, with a considerable amount devoted to learning. Daycares generally provide activities (including recess, naptime, and lunch). Preschools will offer more educational opportunities to help children develop early reading skills, art, math, and science subjects. Prekindergarten will assist your child in the development of vital abilities such as taking turns, listening to others, and assisting one another, among others. Interacting with other youngsters their age can help your child improve their communication skills. Many parents are hesitant to send their children to prekindergarten- because they are too young, yet there are now many trained prekindergarten teachers. Prekindergartens and daycares employ trained personnel who are frequently required to complete courses to get certified in childcare or to hold a bachelor’s degree in education or child studies. This gives you the peace of mind that your child is in the hands of professionals familiar with your child’s requirements and development at any age.
