Understanding Technological Stratification- Exploring Macro-Level Inequalities and Access Issues
Technology in Society
People who don’t have easy access to the internet and dependable technology are said to be in the “digital divide.” People from different parts of life are being harmed by the growing digital divide in our society. High-speed internet and trustworthy devices are the major characteristics of this gap, which is a complicated issue. Many of those who are hampered by the digital divide have to deal with both. For example, a digital divide frequently occurs in K-12 settings when students have little or no access to the internet at home. Another example is in a workspace (Barlovits). While the digital gap may not be as visible in traditional office settings, its consequences begin well before an individual accepts employment. As is the case with other big opportunity gaps, those who encounter the digital divide early in life may face the consequences well into their careers.
It is said that there is a knowledge gap when it comes to accessing, recognizing, and promoting innovation in the developing world because of a lack of information and tools for the poor. E-readiness refers to the degree to which one possesses the knowledge or ability necessary to comprehend and apply digital technology or information. A good example of E-readiness can be used in E-banking where questions like, what is the biggest investment to increase a department’s chances of success? In the knowledge gap, I was once told to explain a particular concept to someone, and I didn’t have information about the idea.
Technology has brought a lot of benefits in my life. I use technology that is some media platforms, to entertain myself. My communication has improved. I do shop online where the items I order are delivered to my doorstep. I also do my studies and attend part of my classes virtually. If this technology weren’t there, life could be totally tedious. I even wonder how our ancestors really survived.
Functionalism
Under this, my main focus is on entertainment functions. Most people enjoy listening to or watching media content on television or going to the theatre to watch films. Some enjoy the media while playing video games, while others enjoy when interacting with their friends on social media platforms. Another focus is on social norm function. While the media sells us products and entertains us, it also socializes us by assisting us in passing along standards, values, and beliefs to the next generation. Indeed, media socializes and re-socializes us throughout our lives. When it comes to how we should conduct ourselves in various situations, all types of media have an impact. Media sources are also cultural touchstones during major national events, such as the presidential election.
Social Conflict
The theory of media and technological domination is one of my favorites. Gatekeeping is the practice of limiting the kind of media and technologies that the general public has access to, as well as when and where those media and technologies are made available.
Symbolic Interaction Perspective
Social networking and social construction stood out for me. Media platforms such as Facebook allow us to know the details of the day of our friends and partners and even allow us to make friends and interact with many people around the globe. Business firms and corporations also use these platforms to promote their products and services. A lot of cash is made while Facebook games such as Candy Crush are updated.

Question
Regarding Technology in society today, as with any improvement to human society, not everyone has equal access, which is a conflict theory at a macro level of analysis.
So technology, in particular, often creates changes that lead to ever more significant inequalities at a macro level in social structures in societies and cultures. In short, the gap gets wider faster. This technological stratification in societies and cultures has led to a new focus on ensuring better access for all. There are two forms of technological stratification at a macro level of analysis.
