Understanding Doshas in Ayurvedic Medicine- Personal and Clinical Applications

Understanding Doshas in Ayurvedic Medicine- Personal and Clinical Applications

Traditional Indian medicine is referred to as Ayurvedic medicine. According to Ayurvedic medicine, doshas are energies that govern health. There are three types of doshas: vata, pitta, and kapha. The doshas influence people’s personalities, whereby one may dominate others or be combined to make up personalities (Goswami, 2011). These doshas are located in specific areas and any deviation from the said areas results in the development of diseases. Subsequently, personality, ailments, and health depend on the state of the three doshas. Our assignment writing help is at affordable prices to students of all academic levels and academic disciplines.

The first dosha is vata. Vata is responsible for breathing and circulation, and it is located at the center “in the large intestine, pelvic region, thighs, bones, skin, and ears” (Eliopoulos, 2018). Personality traits related to vata include hyperactivity, multitasking, unpredictability, creativity, irregular sleeping, and eating patterns, susceptibility to digestive issues, and insomnia (Eliopoulos, 2018). People with a vata dominant tend to be creative and energetic.

The second dosha is pitta. Pitta is attributed to enzyme action stimulation and metabolism, and it is located at the center “in the small intestine, stomach, sweat glands, blood, skin, and eyes” (Eliopoulos, 2018). Personality traits related to pitta include purposeful, orderly, intelligent, driven, conflict-prone, and sensitive (Eliopoulos, 2018).

The third dosha is kapha. Kapha is attributed to protecting and providing nourishment for the body and is located in the “chest, lungs, and spinal fluid” (Eliopoulos, 2018). Personality traits related to kapha include trust, empathy, slowness, ease of sleeping, and relaxedness.

My dosha is vata, because the personality traits align, and I am also prone to digestive and sleeping issues. Interventions can be established based on these traits, including meditation for harmony, regular exercise, and a healthy diet. Interventions will be made based on the traits of a client’s dosha to promote health.
