Understanding Behavior and Family Dynamics- Diversity Statement

My name is John Doe, and I am an early childhood educator. I have served in the early childhood field for three years. I am passionately devoted to inclusivity and equity. I will continue taking action in the classrooms and beyond to ensure all learners feel supported and welcomed as cohesive and diverse learning community members. I did not expect I would enjoy my time teaching and mentoring kids. However, I became hooked after two years of experience that entailed volunteering, internships, and summer jobs. What seemed like a school obligation changed into a passion. The training and volunteers matched me with young learners from different communities. Many were disabled, people of color, and some could not participate in their regular school routine. My role was to enhance learning through support and personal attention, which was a more rewarding experience than I had encountered. Wardle & Fitzpatrick (2016) affirm that learners from diverse communities, especially those with a disability, need much attention and support to promote their learning and make them feel included. This experience inspired me to apply for the early childhood education course.

After my volunteer training with early childhood learners, I enrolled in the same program throughout the year because the experience was much more rewarding. First, I met learners battling with problems at home; most were just scared or too tired to concentrate on schoolwork. However, my job was to assist them and remediate their schoolwork so that they could continue with the school curriculum. Nonetheless, I realized the greatest role was to rebuild their confidence and love for education. Confident children trust their ability to learn, master a behavior, and tackle challenges (MacNevin & Berman, 2017). Such children are more likely to relate with others quickly and positively react to social backgrounds where sharing and taking turns are involved.

My inspiration for taking the early childhood education course is to help me qualify as a teacher with a primary focus on special needs education. The course will equip me with new techniques to implement, not only to communicate new ideas to learners and motivate them to learn but also to equip me with the right tools and knowledge to better my learners. My main aim is to ensure as many learners as possible get the attention and love they require earlier in their schooling. I will foster a passion for education and new ideas to equip them for the future and carry on through their lives.
