Total Quality Management Concept

Total Quality Management Concept

Quality improvement is a framework employed to improve service delivery in an organization systematically. It aims to standardize the processes and structures to reduce variation and improve outcomes. My experience with quality improvement programs is that there must be proactive processes that recognize and solve prospective problems before they happen. Such proactive processes require the management to be foresighted and look at every aspect critically (O’Donohue & Maragakis, 2016). Another experience of quality improvement programs is that a team needs to determine and prioritize potential areas of improvement, collect data, analyze it, communicate results, and spread the successes. It implies that the quality improvement process must be done systematically to achieve desirable results.

One aspect that has led to the comprehensive strategic view of total quality improvement is that studies have shown that many organizations lose enormous resources because of inefficiencies in their operations (O’Donohue & Maragakis, 2016). Therefore, the purpose of a quality improvement program is that organizations produce according to high efficiency and cost-minimization standards.

A quality improvement program has a tremendous positive impact on the organization’s performance. First, it helps eliminate inefficiencies that lead to the wastage of resources, boosting profitability. Secondly, quality improvement helps in enhancing service delivery. For example, in the health care system, patients get new and good experiences (O’Donohue & Maragakis, 2016). Thirdly, quality improvement helps in minimizing the negative environmental impact of the firm’s operation. A firm focuses on operating sustainably through quality improvement, thus helping in ecological conservation. For instance, a firm that works sustainably reduces the emission of harmful gases and strives to minimize the release of waste materials into the water bodies and the surroundings, hence conserving the environment.

Some quality improvement initiatives fail because of specific reasons. The first one is a poor approach to quality improvement programs. The program is bound to fail when a firm does not have an organized way of improving quality (Clemmer, 2022). The second reason quality improvement plans fail is the inadequacy of resources. Quality improvement requires resources; thus, the program fails when firms do not allocate enough resources (Clemmer, 2022). Another reason quality improvement programs fail is the failure to embrace a continuous improvement culture.
