Nurses’ Role in COVID-19 Vaccination

Nurses play a significant role in the organization and administration of vaccines, particularly during the Coronavirus pandemic. It is the nurses’ role to educate the vaccine recipients in a bid to enhance public awareness as well as administer the physical vaccines. Precisely, the role of nurses in the vaccination process includes communication, administrative safety, and follow-up (Manning & Gerolamo, 2021). Nurses are equipped with the necessary knowledge regarding the importance of vaccines and the process of administering them. This puts them in a better position to educate patients about the safety and efficacy of the vaccines. Such communication leads to public awareness. The second role is ensuring administrative safety. This involves ensuring that the vaccines are safely handled, stored, and administered. The last role is following up, where nurses are responsible for the post-administration processes. They recognize and monitor any emotional or physical reactions resulting from vaccines.

Nurses’ Role in Telemedicine

Nurses have various roles as far as Telemedicine is concerned. They can use Telemedicine to interact with physicians while caring for community patients virtually. This facilitates smooth information sharing from a patient’s home. Consequently, this makes it easier to detect pertinent issues early enough. Nurses can also initiate patient consultations via Telemedicine. Further, going by a nurse’s experience and type of practice, they can use Telemedicine to provide patients with care, counseling, and education (Dana & Hertig, 2020). They can also offer remote patient monitoring, which is essential in tracking and monitoring patients with chronic conditions.

Nurses’ role in Prescription drug pricing

Nurses are advocates in the health care system and have a role in prescription drug pricing. Nurses can influence prescription drug pricing by writing to the U.S. House of Representatives, requesting them to substantially lower the costs of drugs (Mardani & Griffiths, 2019). Nurses often witness patients’ devastation when charged exorbitant prices to access drugs. This makes it difficult for most patients to fill their prescriptions. Some resort to taking lesser dosages than the recommended. This can lead to irreparable health issues or even death. That is why registered nurses come together to advocate for a substantial decrease in the cost of drugs.
