The Relationship between Stress and Health

The Relationship between Stress and Health

I realized that my mental health is closely intertwined with my physical health since, most of the time, I get the flu when I am stressed. Some of my significant hassles include living in a busy city and bumping into so many people on my way to work or school, balancing work and school, and paying the bills. One of the things that I can do to improve my health and well-being is to engage in regular meditation. Meditation has been recommended by various counselors as it helps quiet the body and promotes relaxation (Coon, Mitterer & Martini, 2022). I can plan to take time off my busy schedule and take a walk in the park, go for a swim, or lie down by the beach.

Humor has also been linked with stress reduction (Coon, Mitterer & Martini, 2022). Comedy is said to help lessen one’s reaction to a stressful situation and enhance one’s immunity to illnesses. In most cases, when a friend tells me about an incident that caused them distress, depending on the situation, I tend to laugh, which makes them laugh as well, and by the end of the conversation, we find something positive out of the dire situation. I can also apply the same to myself and laugh at my stressors, which is said to help put everything into perspective. Learning to organize my things in order of priority and doing one thing at a time can also help lessen my distress from a lack of balance in work and school. Having good mental health will help me focus better on my studies. I will have fewer sick days, which sometimes cause me to miss school, improving my productivity.
