The WHO’s vision and mission have highlighted most of its functionalities and efforts in global health and wellbeing. The organization’s vision is to attain the highest possible level of health for all people of the world. The mission is to promote health, serve vulnerable communities and keep the world safe. WHO has always mirrored its vision and mission in its activities across the globe. WHO champions global efforts toward achieving better health. This organization connects countries and brings them together in confronting various health challenges. The recent past has highlighted the significance of this organization in confronting global health threats.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and other emerging epidemics, the WHO has played a role in alerting the globe of these outbreaks and establishing a response network to these outbreaks. The WHO has also provided member countries with comprehensive guidance on preparedness for public health catastrophes. WHO is an agency under the United Nations that benefits considerably from member-state donations and partner donations. Member state donations through assessed contributions cover about 20% of all WHO’s expenditures. The bulk of their expenditure is catered for by voluntary donations from partner countries and organizations. The United States is the largest single contributing partner to the WHO and has donated over 109 million dollars in 2022 alone (Buchholz, 2022). These funds help in its operationalization and health promotion programs in various parts of the globe.

WHO policies are geared towards promoting the health and safety of communities. WHO has developed several policies on disabilities, multilingualism, sexual exploitation prevention, privacy, sustainability, and publishing. The WHO is committed to enhancing access to care for all disabled and eliminating barriers to health accustomed to language differences. It is also committed to ensuring privacy on the internet and applies its privacy policies on its website in this regard. Despite being an umbrella body for all member states, WHO abides by the legal provisions of the country it operates.

WHO positively impacts individuals, families, and aggregates within communities. Funds obtained from donations have been used in health promotional programs in various communities. WHO also develops policies targeted at ensuring healthy communities and quality care provisions to individuals within communities. These policies also ensure special groups, such as the disabled, are not discriminated against during care provision.

How WHO Impacts the Health and Safety of Local Community

WHO has impacted the health and safety of many communities across the globe. This organization has been at the forefront of championing healthy communities by carrying out health campaigns in areas affected by various health challenges. It has also funded health-promoting programs such as healthcare infrastructures and provided logistical support to remote areas requiring healthcare products and services. WHO also champions equitable healthcare and supports governments in their health programs. These efforts have been pivotal in ensuring the health of local communities and individuals.

Nurses, being experts in healthcare and health advocates, may find a role in WHO’s operationalizations. They can be involved in health campaigns targeted at creating healthy communities. They can also be involved in care provision for communities affected by various health catastrophes such as pandemics. Nurses have been actively involved in providing care during a health crisis. The COVID pandemic reinforced the significance of nurses in care provision (Jackson et al., 2020). The WHO can, therefore, involve nurses in its efforts to promote health in the face of global health threats.

The WHO remains an important body in global healthcare provision. Its significance in promoting the health of communities and ensuring health among these communities underpins its necessity. This organization has impacted global health by championing better health and healthcare and providing a framework in which quality care can be provided. Through its policies, the WHO has been able to improve the health of special groups and alleviate communities from various health challenges they are facing.
