My high school mathematics teacher, Mrs. Jane, was teaching a volume topic, and many students were having trouble understanding her. She confused the volume of a cylindrical container with the surface area. When we asked her to clarify, she said we were not paying attention and should have been paying more attention in class. I felt frustrated because I was paying attention, and she was not clear in her explanation. My self-esteem took a hit because I felt like I was not good enough at math (Machado, Jeanne, and Helen 246). This experience made me lose interest in the subject.

In another instance, my science teacher taught us about the different types of rocks. Our teacher, Mr. Smith, told us about sedimentary rocks and their formation. He said that when water evaporates, it leaves behind salt, creating sedimentary rocks. However, many students were still confused about how exactly sedimentary rocks are formed. When we asked him to clarify, he got angry and said we should have been paying more attention in class. As a result, many students ended up getting lower grades than they should have. I got angry and confused because I thought that I was not smart enough to understand the concept.

The lack of clarity caused by Mrs. Jane and Mr. Smith had a negative effect on me as a student. I had registered wrong information in my head, leading to confusion and lower grades (Machado, Jeanne, and Helen 252). My confidence also took a hit because I thought it was my fault for not understanding the concepts. The relationship between the teacher and student also suffered because the teachers got angry when we asked for clarification. My attitude towards the subjects changed because I no longer enjoyed learning them. For instance, I lost interest in mathematics after that incident with Mrs. Jane. Whenever the teacher came to class, I would be anxious and worried that I would not understand the concepts.
