Major Functions and Goals
The FBI is a national security organization that is intelligence-driven, threat-focused, and tasked with law enforcement and intelligence responsibilities. The organization operates under the United States Department of Justice as a vital member of the country’s intelligence community. Some of the major functions and goals of the organization include investigating various crimes assigned and providing other law enforcement organizations with services that they require, including training, laboratory examinations, and fingerprint identification (“Welcome to FBI.gov | Federal Bureau of Investigation,” 2016). Additionally, the organization gathers, analyzes, and shares crucial information to support itself and other law enforcement agencies in understanding different threats facing the country.
FBI’s Operations in Fighting Organized Crime
The FBI uses various laws, forfeiture statutes, and other complex techniques when dealing with domestic and international organized crime cases. Undercover operations, informants and cooperating witnesses, consensual monitoring, and court-authorized electronic surveillance are also incorporated (“Welcome to FBI.gov | Federal Bureau of Investigation”, 2016). These techniques focus on illegal activities on a national, regional, and international level.
FBI’s Training, Experience, and Education
The FBI’s training is rigorous. Additionally, an individual has to be a US citizen, be between 23 and 36 years old, and have a bachelor’s degree. The individual must also hold a valid driver’s license and have at least six months of driving experience. In addition, they must have worked for at least two years working experience as a full-time employee. They must also pass the FBI physical fitness test (“Welcome to FBI.gov | Federal Bureau of Investigation,” 2016).
Joining the Agency
I would definitely consider joining the FBI based on one particular reason: the opportunity to protect others by enforcing the laws of the United States. Protecting the United States citizens is made possible by preventing crime from happening. Additionally, various opportunities entail working on different cases, and in the long run, this offers a continuous learning process.
