The Dynamics of Elderly Frailty- Insights into the Aging Process and Its Effects

One of the major issues that most societies face is the aging population, especially in the manner that it addresses frailty as well as physical and mental decline. Frailty in old age, in most cases, is inevitable unless the death of an individual is at a young age without experiencing challenges concerning health and general well-being. The human body is composed of various organs that work simultaneously to ensure that all functions are met (Feldman, 2005). On the other hand, frailty is characterized by a weak immune system that in turn causes the body to become weak.

When the body experiences various malfunctions, some parts may try to counter these effects and mend the process that makes the body weak. As individuals age, bodily systems tend to malfunction before the affected ones can heal. As such, the gradual, cumulative breakdown primarily leads to frailty. Ideally, frailty is often considered as the state of becoming weak and delicate. On the other hand, frailty afflicts the elderly as they advance in age, in most cases, individuals that are sixty-five years and over. It is important to note that frailty may occur earlier or may be delayed until later in life (Feldman, 2005). However, this aspect is dependent on the medical condition of an individual. Frailty may result from several systemic or acquired conditions, including diabetes, war-related disabilities, or cardiac failure.

Frailty is characterized by old age in most cases. When individuals grow old, they tend to develop various complications, translating to a weak immune system. On the other hand, a weak immune system suggests that an individual is susceptible to a number of challenges, frailty being one of them.
