The Advantages of Teamwork in Todays Healthcare Organizations
The Houston Chronicle article by Linda Ray explains the benefits of teamwork in present healthcare organizations. According to the author, effective and efficient teamwork comes with a range of benefits to health workers and organizations, making the workplace more enjoyable, reducing safety problems, and increasing retention rates. Teamwork can boost patient responsiveness because collaboration makes it easier for the group to respond to any changes (Ray, 2018). Knowing that others will meet their assigned duties perfectly can build trust and confidence. Moreover, this can improve work efficiency, effectiveness, and patient satisfaction.
For healthcare administrators, these strategies play a fundamental role in the day-to-day administrative activities of healthcare facilities and hospitals. As a Health Service Manager, I often supervise and plan all clinical and healthcare services, including updating health records and monitoring budgets (Begun, White, & Mosser, 2011). Teamwork is one of the tools that we as administrators require to efficiently execute our daily operations, including ensuring that all departments function properly and collaborate with each by sharing critical information. We serve a vital function in coordinating team-based care delivery. Thus, we need skills and knowledge in working and leading teams, workflow designs, project management, and managing people.
A joint effort is required to ensure that various teams work effectively and efficiently to deliver quality and safe care. Just like governments have various ministries and departments (the Health Department, the Security Department, and so on), which must function together for effective governance, hospitals also have their various units (such as pediatric section, wards, the laboratory, the X-ray department, the emergency room, the billing department, pharmacy, reception, and the physician’s room) that must operate conjointly to achieve efficient and safe care.
