Functional assessment is an important tool to identify why problem behavior occurs recurrently. As such, functional analysis is conducted and is incredibly efficient for identifying this problematic behavior. As a result, user-friendly ways of conducting functional assessments have increased, which has made their use more prevalent within the educational environment. Thus, a functional environment is considered effective because it advocates for using anybody who works with the child to form a team and not just depend on the primary teacher when completing this assessment. Therefore, functional assessment uses anyone who works with the child because, firstly, the primary teacher might be the primary cause or influencer of the problematic behavior. Thus, if the teacher is used,  the child will likely not open up and say what might be causing this challenging behavior. After all, the learner might be more comfortable with other people than the primary teacher. Secondly, other persons who work with the child are considered in functional assessments so that issues of biases concerning behavior are limited. Forming a team gives all persons working with the child a chance to identify the problem behavior in the same manner as the teacher.

The final reason there is a need to use anybody who works with the learner to form a team is to clarify confusing circumstances. When learners or children engage in problematic behaviors, it can be confusing for the teacher and the parents working with them. They might be left pondering what might be the problem because such behavior patterns do not make sense. Thus, functional assessments use persons who work with the child other than the primary teacher because these persons are more likely to involve the learner and identify why the behavior happens. This analysis will focus on what gets the child into that behavior; the person may pay attention to the child or relieve them of having to do academic tasks in a classroom, which will aid in assessing the challenging behavior outside of the learning context (Jacob 25). This will enable the person involved with the child to realize and identify the root cause and reason for the challenging behavior and find a solution to this behavior. This is why functional assessment allows everybody involved with the child to be used so they can understand the reason for misconduct. The primary reason is to bring clarity and understanding to otherwise confusing and chaotic behaviors or situations.
