 The Target and Accessible Population

Evidence from research involving human subjects is invaluable in biomedical, behavioral, and social fields (American Psychological Association, n.d.). However, such research should be conducted within the set regulations and laws protecting human participants. The education session and PICO identified nurses and other professionals specifically involved in research or with interests in pursuing research as the target population. On the other hand, the accessible population includes all the nurses who may be readily available and easy to reach. It is from the accessible population that the participants in the study can be drawn from to meet the preferred sample size. These may include nurses in clinical practice, nursing education, and nurse managers, regardless of whether they are involved in nursing research or not.

The Difference between Accessible and Target Population

The target population and the accessible population are two different types of population groups focused on in research. The target population is a presentation of the entire nursing professionals and other healthcare professionals who are involved in research involving human samples that are of direct interest to the researcher (Thacker, 2020). The population the researcher, aims to involve in their study is the primary focus from which the study’s conclusions can be generalized(Asiamah et al., 2017). On the other hand, the accessible population is a subset of the target population that researchers can reach and easily conduct their research on (Thacker, 2020). This can be defined as the sample population of a study. In healthcare research, the target population is extensive and faces diverse characteristics, including geographical location and other time constraints that make it hard to study the target population. In this case, the research will have to use a sample of the target population which is feasibly accessible to study.
