Why Implementation Process is Vital to a New System Selection

The process of system implementation entails the phase where an organization has already acquired the new system and is continuing with the preliminary phases to the phase where the system is disposed of for use by everyone in the organization (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2017). Notably, the system implementation process is essential to new system selection to avoid system sabotage, project delays, dissatisfied users, and cost overruns (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2017). This is because resources and time needed in the implementation of the new system can vary depending on the number of installed applications, the project’s scope, the organization’s complexity, the number of user groups that are involved, and organizational needs (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2017). Therefore, the process of implementation, including organizing the team participants, defining scope and goals, establishing a project plan, and identifying an accountability plan, is crucial to ensure the effective inclusion of resources within the time range provided.

Implementation Risks

There may be poor change managers, which requires careful thought implementation agents (Rahimi et al., 2008). Moreover, there may be unrealistic expectations of the system, especially if the goals and scope are overestimated or underestimated. According to Rahimi et al. (2008), a new system may face insufficient maintenance and technical support, and this is among the main reasons why healthcare setting new systems fail. Moreover, some members may find it difficult to interact with the system because of unfamiliarity, which may cause frustration or reluctance to its usage. For instance, Rahimi et al. (2008) found that integrated computer-based patient records systems posed challenges such as long response times as well as unfriendly user interface even though the system was meant to encourage user-friendliness and effectiveness.
