Current Future Improvements
Described your indoor living space (i.e., square feet) The everyday indoor living space measures at least 100 square feet. Most of the room is consumed by the living area and bedrooms. In the future, I intend to reduce this space by at least 30 square feet. This will allow decluttering of the areas that have large rooms and numerous items. In addition, I will be able to maximize the use of the space and only retain the most important things in the house.
Describe the location of your home and why it would be the best for you. Make sure to address climate, geography, rural/urban/or suburban. South Boardman, Michigan

South Boardman has an annual high temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit and a low temperature of 33 degrees Fahrenheit. The yearly precipitation is 34.81 inches (U.S. Climate Data, 2022).

South Boardman is an ideal location because of its suburban and rural mix, where most individuals own their homes (Niche.com Inc., 2022). The conservative nature of the township offers great tranquility to residents seeking quiet and calmness.

Three materials in your home and how they can be more sustainable. 1)Windows made from clear glass

2)Panels made of cardboard

3)Timber

1)The windows can be replaced with low emissivity windows, which reduce the flow of heat through the glass by at least half when compared to regular windows. These should reduce the cost of energy used while heating the house (Raney, 2011).

2) The cardboard panels can be replaced with structural insulated panels. These panels save energy costs by 50 percent when compared to homes that are built using conventional materials (Raney, 2011).

3)The timber can be replaced with recycled steel, which reduces the extent of environmental destruction while using wood. It would also have a positive impact on the environment through the reduction of landfills (Raney, 2011).

Energy use What are 3 things that use the most energy in your home?

1)Heating

2)Lighting

3)Cooling

How can you decrease your energy consumption?

1) Solar energy can be used to heat water and light the house to minimize consumption.

2)Avoid leaving lights on unnecessarily is also important in saving energy costs

3) Using biomass as an alternative energy source should enable cost savings and reduction of energy expenses.

Water use What are 3 things that use the most water in your home?

1)Garden

2)Bathing

3)Toilets

How can you decrease your water consumption?

1) Harvesting rainwater

Harvesting rainwater is important in substituting the amount of water that is used from other sources. It also eliminates the loss of such water. It can be used for all activities in the home.

2) Recycle and reuse wastewater in the garden

The water from different points of the home can be treated and used in the garden. This reduces the amount of water usage in the house.

3)Replace current toilet bowls with low-flow ones that conserve water

The existing toilet bowls consume significant amounts of water for cleanliness to be achieved. It is important to replace these with toilets that need only 1.28 gallons instead of the usual 1.6 that the EPA recommends, or 5 gallons for older toilets (Rae, 2021). This will save water costs alongside consumption.
