In this course on global health systems in developing countries, I have gained valuable knowledge about various aspects of healthcare, including the rising cost of healthcare in the United States, global health problems, national health systems, and the role of international organizations and NGOs. Through my review and reflection, I want to address the most compelling topics I learned, the impact of participating in discussions on my understanding of the subject matter, and explore potential approaches that could have provided additional valuable information.

The Most Compelling Topics in the Course

One of the most compelling topics I encountered in this course was the rising cost of healthcare in the United States. It was eye-opening to understand the complex factors contributing to the escalating costs, such as technological advancements, pharmaceutical prices, administrative expenses, and the influence of insurance companies (Schwartz & Woloshin, 2019). This topic sheds light on the challenges healthcare leaders face in managing these costs while ensuring quality patient care. The topic also prompted me to critically analyze the U.S. healthcare system and explore potential solutions to address this issue.

Another significant topic that resonated with me was examining global health problems and the disparities in health outcomes between developed and underdeveloped countries. Learning about the burden of infectious diseases, lack of access to healthcare, and the impact of socioeconomic factors on health emphasized the importance of a holistic and equitable approach to global health (Lal et al., 2021). It also highlighted the need for international cooperation and the roles played by organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations (UN) agencies, and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in addressing these challenges (Lal et al., 2021).

Participation in Discussions

Participating in discussions during this course greatly enhanced my understanding of the subject. Conversations with fellow students allowed me to gain diverse perspectives and insights. These discussions deepened my understanding of the cultural, economic, and political factors influencing health systems in developing countries (Schwartz & Woloshin, 2019). Moreover, the discussions helped me develop critical thinking skills and refine my ability to articulate my thoughts and arguments effectively.

While the discussions were valuable, a few areas could have been further clarified. For instance, as Lal et al. (2021) state, a more comprehensive exploration of the specific strategies employed by developed countries to achieve successful healthcare systems would have been beneficial. Additionally, delving deeper into the impact of cultural norms and beliefs on healthcare utilization and delivery in developing countries could have provided a more nuanced understanding of the challenges faced by healthcare leaders in those settings (Lal et al., 2021).

Approaches for Yielding Additional Valuable Information

To yield additional valuable information, a comparative analysis of different national health systems in developing countries could have been explored. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of various approaches could enable a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. Furthermore, as Lal et al. (2021) argue, real-life case studies or guest lectures from healthcare leaders in developing countries could have provided practical insights and highlighted successful strategies employed in resource-limited settings.

Conclusion
