Summary
Charles and Cole (2019) explore a teacher’s position in effective classroom management. Classroom management is an evolving teaching technique that replaces formal discipline practices. Classroom management promotes an effective learning environment where students become responsible for their behaviour, actions, and practices. Students develop a self-drive in engaging in appropriate behaviour, which stills effective learning. Teachers are critical in mentoring students to behave and act expectedly. Also, teachers are responsible for developing their teaching skills to help create effective strategies and decisions that support the learning needs of all students in an effective learning environment. Notably, communication skills are essential in helping students integrate taught skills, practices, and behaviour in their studies.
Reflection
Following the ineffectiveness of coercive discipline, teachers advocate the efficiency and effectiveness of classroom management. However, incorporating classroom management practices has various challenges. Teachers acknowledge that students misbehave at any time, encouraging them to address the misconduct to avoid disrupting the learning process. Teachers’ most significant challenge is achieving responsible behaviour among students without disciplinary actions (Charles & Cole, 2019). Teachers need to increase their creativity in classroom management by helping students understand what they should and should not engage with to enhance their academic success. Also, teachers should be good role models for learners to emulate. The teaching strategies and instructions should accommodate all students’ learning needs, encourage participation in learning activities, and advocate against misconduct (Burden, 2020). Classroom management has a long-lasting impact on students’ lives since it makes them responsible for their behaviour and actions in future endeavours. Following the continuous changes in teaching practices, effective classroom management will be essential in future classrooms, making students more responsible for their behaviour and conduct and supporting excellent performance.
