Study Plan

Study Plan

Different research studies have explored self-reflection as a tool for enhancing metacognition and, thus, a positive correlation between its application and learner’s motivation and academic performance. According to Cavilla (2017), self-reflection helps students improve or maintain their summative scores by propelling them toward sustained academic improvement.

Strengths and Weakness Analysis

Healthcare systems must ensure that they adequately satisfy the broad needs of different patients. One strategy is to employ qualified nurses who have accumulated relevant competencies through high-quality education. National certification exams for nurses assess the level of skills, ability, and knowledge student nurses collect to promote health and well-being among patients. In the past practice exam, despite scoring 76/100, my chief strength was in medication knowledge, which is an essential expertise in preventing medication errors in a clinical setting. My weakest competence areas were knowledge of pediatric nursing diagnoses, especially in pain and self-care deficits. Despite the challenging questions, I completed them within the allocated time.

The Study Plan

Preparation for the certification exam is vital as it will directly impact my success. I developed a five-step SMART goals-based study plan to ensure my progress is directional and can be tracked over time towards attainable objectives in the given period. I began by determining how and when I study best. I tend to be most productive, focused, and energized in the morning. This time is favorable to me as I can primarily look with minimal distractions, and it will allow adequate study time. My target is a seven-hour daily study with breaks to avoid one long session. Next, choosing suitable study material is vital. The university student resources portal and other online databases provide access to up-to-date peer-reviewed articles, journals, and course textbooks. This strategy will protect me from reading bulky and outdated materials, leading to irrelevant exam preparation and possible failure.

Furthermore, the third step will be to continually assess my progress in knowledge built over the study period. I will use past papers of the National Certification exams to constantly determine how I exploit my strengths and improve my weaknesses throughout the exam preparation period. The next step involves splitting the study workload into smaller, manageable portions and emphasizing priority areas. This tactic will be implemented throughout and in each study session during the exam’s buildup. The fifth step of my study plan is setting a time frame. I will use my table calendar to mark or highlight milestones such as factual improvements in my weaker areas and completion of different subject areas.

Resources to Accomplish the Goals and Tasks

The American Nurses Credentialing Centre Examination online portal is resource-rich for my preparation plan (“Certification review,” n.d.). The platform lists different textbooks, online classes, and webinars that can be instrumental in my preparation process. However, they are not free; therefore, I cannot afford all the resources there. Accordingly, I will supplement this resource with course texts we used during nursing school training by reading textbooks and challenging my knowledge using different case scenario questions to improve my critical thinking. Additionally, study groups with my friends form an excellent resource for brainstorming, reinforcing comprehension, and motivating each other (“Study skills: Using study groups effectively,” n.d.). We will do our discussions through online platforms to ensure it is convenient and flexible for everyone.

Study Plan

Reflect on your practice exam question results from Week 2. Identify content-area strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Also, reflect on your overall test-taking. Was the allotted length comfortable, or did you run out of time? Did a particular question format prove difficult?

The Assignment

Based on your practice test question results and considering the national certification exam, summarize your strengths and opportunities for improvement. Note: Your grade for this Assignment will not be derived from your test results but your self-reflection and study plan.
Create a study plan for this quarter to prepare for the certification exam, including three or four SMART goals and the tasks you must complete to accomplish each goal. Include a timetable for achieving them and describe how you will measure your progress.
Describe resources you would use to accomplish your goals and tasks, such as ways to participate in a study group or review course, mnemonics and other mental strategies, and print or online resources you could use to study.

This is a study plan for the Psychiatric PMHNP Exam. On the practice exam, I got 76/100. Strengths are medications; weakness is knowledge in diagnosing, especially in children.
