I considered many factors when formulating this PICO(T) question. The consideration was complex, and to develop a strong PICO(T) question, I had to understand the topic of clinical investigation and the current literature concerning my subject of research. My PICO(T) question will benefit nurses since it will show them the effective ways of reducing burnout associated with nursing. This PICO(T) question was well thought out, and it will lead to the development of a strong hypothesis and prediction of outcomes.
I chose this topic since burnout is a serious issue facing the nursing profession. I have experienced burnout more than once, especially during the pandemic. Many nurses experience stress levels linked with the burnout they encounter in their practice settings. The major reason why nurses experience burnout is due to the high workload that they share (Mohamed, 2016). The primary defensive mechanism for this burnout is adopting coping strategies. Some nurses decide to implement stress management strategies, while others choose to quit their jobs. This is the reason behind this PICO(T) question: to investigate whether coping strategies compared to lack of use affect burnout in nurses.

In conclusion, clinicians should consider using the PICO(T) format when conducting clinical research. PICO(T) enables clinicians to have a starting point that will guide them to answer the study questions that they are interested in.
