Staffing Plans – My Walmart Schedule
Walmart has recently developed an excellent new predictive scheduling system that the employees term as time-saving and convenient. The new schedule is known as “simple, my Walmart schedule,” this schedule allows employees to view the schedule online to plan their work-life plans (Barrett, 2018). This enables the employees to have more control over their time than ever before since the schedule allows them to adjust quickly when there are changes in plans. Through My Walmart schedule, workers can swap shifts with other employees and pick up the vacant shifts (Smith, 2018). Through this schedule, employees can pick up shifts to be able to work extra hours above the normal hours.
My Walmart schedule is a lot communicated at a specific time, but rather it is a real-time online schedule where employees can check the schedules at any time of the day. Some of the advantages of the My Walmart schedule area are that first, employees can work in any department in the store as long as they are trained, meaning that one cannot miss what to do. The flexibility of my Walmart schedule enables the workers to plan their lives around their work (Barrett, 2018). An employee cannot miss social events because of work since one can pick a shift that would not interfere with the social life events plans.
Thirdly, the shifts are time-saving. The workers say that the system has saved them more than 8 hours per week. One of the disadvantages of my Walmart schedule is the freedom and flexibility of the shifts, which could cause some employees’ productivity to drop because they will get involved in social life events at the expense of working (Smith, 2018). This system is only favourable to disciplined employees but disadvantages employees who are undisciplined.
One suggestion that can help improve the My Walmart schedule should indicate that workers who would be consistent in their shifts for five consecutive days will earn 5% more per hour than those who break the shifts and those who come to work less consistently. This will encourage workers to consistently come to work to render their services to earn more. In other words, this small increase in earnings is a token for hardworking and available workers. The operation manager’s concern with this scheduling system is forecasting. It is a bit hard to forecast or predict the availability of employees on certain days, such as holidays and weekends.
