The article’s main idea is that the main challenge that investors in space mining and exploration face is an outdated global legal framework and the increased threat of space militarization. Currently, the only strong regulation is the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, which prevents conflict between nations that have ventured into space mining and exploration and outlines procedures for scientific research, exploration, and exploitation of land (Skauge, 2020). Proper regulation of space mining and exploration is needed because conflicts centered on space and the resources it offers could occur.
