Social Work Research

Social work promotes development, cohesion, social change, and empowerment of the communities. Research is very beneficial for social workers to keep in terms of what the people need and the supply of resources and better offer their services. Social work research applies research methods to conduct an investigation, and address or solve problems experienced by social workers in their working environment. The basic methods include qualitative research and quantitative research. Qualitative methods such as interviews and observations are used to understand thoughts, concepts, and experiences and are expressed in words (Mr. Sinn, 2021). Quantitative research is conveyed in graphs and numbers. It confirms assumptions and theories. For example, experiments, surveys, and observations are recorded as numbers.

When social work research is conducted appropriately, people gain an understanding and knowledge of various groups, individuals, effects, and causes surrounding social issues. Social work research is essential because knowing the nature of people’s social environment is the onset of one’s profession; what people do relates to the political, economic, and social conditions. (Engel & Schutt, 2016). Research has numerous benefits to the social work community. The study helps access the resources and needs of people in the community. Also, to evaluate the effectiveness of their services in fulfilling people’s needs, social workers need to research (Prof D, 2021). In the changing contexts of practice, research is beneficial to social workers in advancing their professional education (Simplilearn, 2021). I have done social work research on elderly abuse. I discovered that some older people go through sexual abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, abandonment, financial exploitation, neglect, and self-neglect from the study. The research was mainly influenced by ways to improve elder care in our community.

In conclusion, research is a significant aspect of social work. For social workers to understand how to offer better services, research is necessary. Also, research helps to solve or address any issue affecting the social work surroundings. When social work research is conducted appropriately, one gains an understanding and knowledge of various groups, individuals, effects, and causes surrounding social issues.
