Social Psychology- Personal Experiences

Social Psychology- Personal Experiences

Acting out of character often arises due to being presented with limiting conditions (haver,2015). One of the times I behaved out of character was during my internship. I had just been hired as an intern in a busy retail company. My supervisor had set sales targets for every intern but realized that most interns could not meet their targets. He decided to create a team and set weekly targets. I was selected as a team leader, and every intern was to answer to me. I realized that some team members were not contributing to meeting the target set for our team, and I tried talking to them to convince them to be active and make them understand the significance of being team players. Unfortunately, most of them did not listen to me, so I had no choice but to report them to the supervisor. This action was entirely out of character for me because I always focus on avoiding conflict, but their refusal to participate in meeting the teams’ goals would affect the performance of other hardworking team members.

According to Quaschning (2010), climate change is one of the prevalent concerns affecting most countries worldwide. One of the solutions being embraced across the world is the use of renewable energy. On 8th July 2021, Milliken et al. (2021) published an article discussing the impact of renewable energy on climate change. The main elements of power factors of climate change are people’s attitudes towards renewable energy sources and the application of renewable energy, as well as the sources of resistance to changes in attitude to accommodate the preference for renewable energy. For instance, some people consider renewable energy to be expensive and outdated and opt for modern energy sources such as electricity. Therefore, a global psychologist could positively address the concern of resistance to using renewable energy for reduced climate change by convincing people of the negative effects of climate change and the economic and environmental benefits of using renewable energy.
